With The Gilded Age season three over and And Just Like That … finished forever, the world is starved. Enter The Morning Show, perhaps the starriest (and silliest) thing on TV now. The Apple TV+ drama is returning for a fourth season of following Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) and Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston). Last season ended with Bradley and her brother Hal Jackson (Joe Tippett) turning themselves in to the FBI for their roles in the attack on the Capitol — yes, that attack on the Capitol. Meanwhile, the titular morning show’s network, UBA, is merging with another fictional network, NBN. What will this show do next?

The trailer is just a list of statements.

Something is going on, but rather than tease any actual plot points, the August 20 trailer mostly just promises melodrama. Every character seems to say an ominous phrase that, upon inspection, doesn’t tell us too much about the season’s big conflict. In other words, it’s gonna be as delightfully unhinged as ever. “We promised real change, to push the stories we cared about,” Greta Lee as Stella says. Cory, played by Billy Crudup, meanwhile theorizes, “It sounds like the drama at the network is juicier than the drama on the network.” Then, Mia (Karen Pittman) says, “I know what I deserve, and it’s my time now.” Finally, Alex finishes the trailer with perhaps the least clear yet most dramatic sentence of all: “You can’t clean a house if you’re about to blow it up.” Seems untrue, but she said it so convincingly.

Who’s joining the cast?

Most of season three’s major players, including Witherspoon, Aniston, Lee, Pittman, and Crudup, along with Nicole Beharie, Jon Hamm, and Mark Duplass, will return. The most notable exception is Julianna Margulies as Bradley’s lover Laura Peterson, who is not coming back for season four.

There’s room for a bunch of new players, though. Jeremy Irons will join as Alex’s father and The Good Place star William Jackson Harper is playing the network’s new head of sports, Ben. They’ll be joined by Narcos star Boyd Holbrook as an edgy podcaster and Mufasa hottie Aaron Pierre as a visual artist named Miles. But the most exciting addition is Oscar winner and zoo hater Marion Cotillard as Celine Dumont, who immediately proves her French bona fides in the trailer by declaring that having good journalism is “a nice idea … but it’s not sexy.”

When does it premiere?

The Morning Show season four premieres on September 17 exclusively on Apple TV+. Tune in.
