Platonic

What sets Platonic apart is how it swerves away from so many other hallmarks of the modern prestige comedy. Unlike the Bill Lawrence–flavored corner of the Apple TV+, it isn’t secretly about traumaforgiveness, or anything that suggests an intent to be more important than it actually is. Which isn’t to say that Platonic lacks substance. Despite the absurd situations its characters get up to — and there are plenty of wacky ones — there’s real soul to the way the show embraces the middle-aged nature of its lead characters. Will and Sylvia have history, but their actions are firmly in the moment. Their primary internal conflicts are rooted in self-actualization, a process given more friction by the responsibilities and consequences that arise from all the choices they’ve made in their lives. — Nick Quah, “Don’t Sleep on Platonic
