Parents
Parents and educators are natural partners in the mission to provide every child with the best possible education. The UFT collaborates with thousands of parents and parent organizations citywide to help ensure that their children and all New York City students feel welcomed and have access to the high-quality education they deserve.

Our parent support team
At the UFT, we believe that families are essential partners in a child’s education. That’s why we offer parents and parent leaders support in every borough, making sure that no matter where you live or where your child attends school, you have someone to turn to.
Our citywide parent and community outreach is led by Nicholas Cruz from the union’s main office and supported at the local level by a team of five full-time parent liaisons. These dedicated liaisons are here to help, offering workshops, informational meetings and opportunities to connect with other families and community-based organizations.
If you have questions or need guidance, support or resources, reach out to the UFT parent and community liaison in your borough. We’re here for you, and we look forward to working together.

UFT Lobby Day 2025
About 1,000 UFT members and parents spent March 10 in Albany, lobbying legislators and hearing from Gov. Kathy Hochul and other state officials on key issues for the union. They spoke with lawmakers about fixing Tier 6, banning cellphones in schools, providing adequate state aid to schools, protecting students and school communities from cuts to federal aid, and maintaining vital UFT programs like United Community Schools and the UFT Teacher Center.
