Spider-Man 4 (officially Spider-Man: Brand New Day) is right around the corner, and, in a twist no one saw coming, Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is reportedly joining Tom Holland for the long-anticipated installment.
Four years after the premiere of No Way Home, we finally got confirmation that our favorite arachnid, brought to life by British actor Tom Holland, will be returning to our screens soon, and new details keep popping up daily. Holland first stepped into the superhero's shoes in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which premiered in 2017. He was joined by Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, who portrayed the film's main secondary characters.
Holland put on the spider suit once again for 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home before wrapping up the trilogy — or so we thought — in 2021 with Spider-Man: No Way Home, featuring cameos from Spider-Men of yesteryear: Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. And with Tom Holland teasing his Spider-Man wearing the classic suit in this new installment, fan theories have already begun.
While the trilogy wrapped up everything nicely, it also ended with the cleanest of slates for Peter Parker, so everyone is gathering clues as to what the future of the beloved superhero could look like now that the franchise is back on. Below, we have compiled everything we know (so far) about Spider-Man 4 (now officially Spider-Man: Brand New Day), including changes in the crew, injuries on set, and everything Holland has teased about the plot.
What is Spider-Man 4 called?
After years of referring to the untitled project as Spider-Man 4, Marvel officially revealed that the title for the fourth movie in the series will be Spider-Man: Brand New Day on March 31, 2025. The title was first unveiled during a panel at Las Vegas' CinemaCon before reaching social media. At the event, Holland described Brand New Day as "a fresh start.”
"I know we left you with a massive cliffhanger at the end of No Way Home, so Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start. It is exactly that," Holland said. “That’s all I can say. That's all I've been allowed to say. And I'm well over the hump of giving away spoilers, so don't be worried. I'm not going to do that today. But thank you for your support. It's always a joy, and I will be back next year, hopefully.”
Fans of Spider-Man comics would be familiar with Brand New Day, as it is a storyline in the '00s comic book series The Amazing Spider-Man. The series follows the aftermath of One More Day, which loosely inspired No Way Home, and introduces a new story arc for Spidey after his secret identity is revealed and then forgotten by everyone.
When will Spider-Man: Brand New Day be released?
At the time of writing, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slated to hit cinemas on July 31, 2026. The film was initially scheduled to debut a week earlier, but has since been pushed.
When does Spider-Man: Brand New Day begin filming?
Tom Holland revealed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will begin filming in the summer of 2025 during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in October 2024, which you can watch above. “Next summer, we start shooting. Everything’s good to go. We’re nearly there," he said.
Filming for the movie began in Glasgow on August 1, 2025, with the Scottish city being completely transformed into NYC. Tom Holland was spotted on set in the town on August 3, donning Spider-Man's new suit.
Sony and Marvel confirmed filming had begun with a video posted to Instagram on August 10, 2025. In the video, which you can watch below, we are privy to Holland's first day back on set during filming, including cute interactions aplenty with fans.

On August 8, Holland and Zendaya were also spotted seemingly filming scenes for the movie in London.
In a September 2025 interview with Esquire, Holland opened up about the process of filming, saying they “are shooting absolute gold.” The star also admitted that he is more involved than ever in this movie and has done extensive research to ensure they give fans what they want.
“I want to do justice to Peter Parker’s character. I want to bring the fans something that’s really worthy of their time, and I’m very grateful for their investment in our franchise. I don’t mean financially, I mean the time to go to the cinema three times. That’s a big ask,” he said. “I did a lot of sneaky research online — looking at what people were saying in the interim between Spider-Man: No Way Home and now Spider-Man: Brand New Day. I really just kind of put together a vibe of what people were looking for and went to Marvel and said, ‘This is what I think we should be doing.’ And I think that’s exactly what we are doing. So it’s been a really fun process developing the movie. It’s the first time I’ve ever been allowed in that part of the process, and it’s definitely a stressful experience.”
Holland continued saying he is “so lucky that the fan base has been so vocal about what they love from the franchise,” so the forthcoming movie will “lean into those things and capitalize on [them].”
We do not yet know if the filming schedule has been affected by a minor injury Holland suffered on set on September 19, 2025. While filming on set for the movie, the star reportedly suffered from a mild concussion, which resulted in a production halt. You can learn more about it in detail here.
What will Spider-Man: Brand New Day be about?
Seeing that — spoiler alert — Peter makes everyone forget about him at the end of No Way Home, it looks like we are in for a slew of (second) firsts as we'd likely get to see how Peter and MJ reconnect again, especially seeing the film's title and its relation to the comics.
In a teaser video shared on August 2, Holland posted a clip of himself walking into frame wearing a different Spider-Man suit than we've seen him in. Instead of his version, which featured a smaller spider on the chest, Holland is wearing a suit with the larger black spider that's much closer to that of Garfield and Maguire's suits. Holland's Peter Parker wore a high-tech suit made by Tony Stark, and since his death in Avengers: Endgame, it's not clear how this new outfit will tie into the story.

Speaking about the script on the Rich Roll podcast, Holland admitted the story got him and Zendaya, who happens to also be his IRL partner, more than excited.
“We have a creative, and we have a pitch and a draft, which is excellent. It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job," Holland said. “I read [the script] three weeks ago, and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and we, at times, were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.’ But there’s a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going, but it’s exciting.”
Speaking to Deadline earlier, Holland also admitted the pressure was high for Spider-Man 4 as they had "a legacy to protect.” He added: “The third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing.”
On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he revealed the script might not be what people are expecting. "It's a little different to anything we've done before, but I think the fans are gonna really respond to it," he said.
Who's in the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
So far, we know that Tom Holland will be reprising his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Though it had not been officially confirmed, Deadline reported on March 31, 2025, that Zendaya will also be returning as MJ, but, given the memory erasure of it all, expect some changes in dynamics between the two.
Variety also confirmed that Jacob Batalon will be returning as Ned. Speaking to ComicBook.com in 2024, Batalon already seemed hopeful about his return while lamenting the outcome of No Way Home. "I don't know what any future holds for any of them in that world. I just feel like if things happen, they happen. I hope so. I definitely hope so. It's sad that he has no friends anymore," he told the outlet.
A new addition to the cast seems to be Stranger Things star Sadie Sink. On March 12, 2025, Deadline reported that Sink had apparently landed a role in Spider-Man 4. Though Marvel and Sony declined to comment at the time, the actor seemingly confirmed her involvement in the movie, by resharing a meme about her casting. Since then, the movie's director has also seemingly confirmed Sink's involvement, apparently featuring her and Holland in a special video message for Hisako Film Lab students.
Though details about Sink's potential role are being kept under wraps, there was much speculation that she could play Jean Grey initially. Speculation now seems to be favoring a version of Gwen Stacy, but again, neither Marvel nor Sony has confirmed anything, so it's best to take everything with a grain of salt and wait for official announcements.
Similarly to Sink's casting news, on May 8, 2025, Deadline reported that Emmy winner Liza Colón-Zayas, known for playing fan-favorite Tina Marrero on FX’s The Bear, has also allegedly closed a deal to appear on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though Sony and Marvel declined comment. Details about her still-unconfirmed character remain under wraps.
On June 20, 2025, Entertainment Weekly confirmed that another The Bear alum, Jon Bernthal, had also joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Bernthal will be reprising his role as Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, in the upcoming film.
Bernthal first portrayed Castle in Netflix's Daredevil series, which premiered in 2015 and ran for 3 seasons. He also got his own two-season spinoff show, The Punisher, in 2017. In 2025, Bernthal reprised the role in Disney+'s revival, Daredevil: Born Again, which has already been renewed for a second season, slated to release in March 2026, right before Brand New Day. Bernthal is also working on a standalone Punisher special.
Earlier this year, Bernthal, who will also appear alongside Zendaya and Holland in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, opened up about having "a little" hand in helping Holland prepare for his original Spider-Man audition.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the actor revealed the two actually prepped for their Spider-Man and Punisher auditions together while filming Pilgrimage, and he actually suggested he'd start his tape with a double backflip, which he did.
As reported by Variety, Mark Ruffalo might reprise his role as Hulk for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though Sony and Marvel declined to comment. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on September 4, 2025, Ruffalo stated that he had not yet seen a script for the film but acknowledged the rumors surrounding his casting. “If I’m doing that, which the rumors are that I am, once I get a script, I’ll know it’s real," he said.
As reported by Variety on August 20, 2025, Tramell Tillman has also joined the cast in a yet-to-be-disclosed role. You might recognize Tillman from Sweethearts, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, or most notably Apple TV+'s critically acclaimed series Severance, where he plays Seth Milchick. (Tillman has received both an Emmy and a SAG Award nomination for his portrayal of the character.)
As for other cast members, given her untimely fate in No Way Home, it's likely that Marisa Tomei, who played Aunt May, won't return for Spider-Man: Brand New Day — though flashbacks and alternate universes are always an option.
As far as Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, the indisputable cameo stars of No Way Home, both stars seem to be down to return. Speaking to Esquire, Garfield said he would “100 percent come back if it was the right thing. Speaking to British GQ, however, he confirmed he has not been cast in the upcoming movie. “I’m gonna disappoint you [but] no," he said. “But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on."
Maguire, on the other hand, told Marvel that if asked, he wouldn't turn the offer down. “If these guys called me and said, ‘Would you show up to do this movie or read a scene or do a Spider-Man thing?’ it would be a ‘Yes!' Why wouldn’t I want to do that?” he said.
Who will be directing and writing Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Much like the three previous films, the script for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been penned by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. However, the film will be directed by Shang-Chi's Destin Daniel Cretton instead of Jon Watts.
