He credits the 'Jurassic World' star with popularising lighter performances

Glen Powell has described Chris Pratt’s performance in Guardians Of The Galaxy as changing the landscape of Hollywood for him and other actors.

Pratt was initially a comedy actor, best known for sitcom Parks And Recreation prior to entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He would play Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord in six MCU movies and a Guardians Of The Galaxy Christmas special, all of which would launch him into action stardom alongside the success of his role in Jurassic World.

Powell is considered one of Hollywood’s up-and-coming leading men thanks to hits such as Twisters, Top Gun Maverick, and the forthcoming remake of The Running Man. In a new interview with GQ, he puts his success partly down to Pratt making lighter performances more attractive to studios.

“I remember when Chris Pratt broke out in Guardians of the Galaxy,” he said. “There’s no doubt it really helped—not being brooding or dark. Like, I’m not Christian Bale. Christian Bale has a gravitas and a weight, and (Robert) Pattinson had his thing. And when Pratt kind of appeared on the scene where he was doing things that were a little more silly and buoyant, that’s where I feel most at home. And that’s where I feel like I had a gear that is a necessary flavour in terms of Hollywood, and not a gear that a lot of guys can play.”

He would explain that, prior to that moment, he would find himself being offered characters who were “the jock, or the fraternity guy, or the very vanilla next-door-neighbour vibes. You get cast into these very broad things.”

The Running Man, directed by Edgar Wright and based on the book by Stephen King, comes to cinemas on November 14.

Recently, Glen Powell dismissed the idea that he could be in the running to be the next James Bond, saying that producers should “Get an authentic Brit for that job.”

Turnstile have delivered the first stage dive on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series. Check out the moment below.

The hardcore giants are the latest act to take part in the video series, performing a five-song set from their latest album ‘Never Enough’. They played ‘Dreaming’, ‘Sunshower’, ‘I Care’, the album’s title track, and ‘Birds’, with a three-piece horn section added to give a new twist to the songs.

At around the 14-minute mark, frontman Brendan Yates jumped on the desk and dived into the dancing crowd, marking the series’ first stage dive. Earlier in the set, the Baltimore native would reflect on what the appearance means to the band.

“This being somewhat of a hometown show for us, there’s a lot of very important people in the room” he said. “A lot of personal heroes, a lot of people that we grew up with, people that are family, people that are friends, people the we found music with, people that we made music with. All that to say, thank you for always being there, and I love you.”

Watch Turnstiles’ Tiny Desk Concert in full below:

‘Never Enough’ received a glowing five-star review from NME, and was also named as one of our best albums of 2025 so far.

Speaking to NME in June, drummer Daniel Fang says the success of 2021’s ‘Glow On’ didn’t create any pressure when making its follow-up. “I don’t know how anyone would have time or the bandwidth to manage outside expectations,” he said. “I don’t think any of us can even fathom that, because there’s an infinite well within everyone [in the band]… I don’t understand how anyone could be guided by that when there’s so much else to work off of.”

Following their acclaimed 2025 Glastonbury set, Turnstile are embarking on a UK and Europe tour. It kicks off in Dublin on October 31, before heading to the UK for shows in Glasgow, Manchester and London. Then, they’ll take the tour to Hamburg, Amsterdam, Milan, Paris and more, before wrapping up in Madrid on November 27. See a full list of dates below, tickets are available here.

2023's 'Beckham' sparked the viral "be honest" meme

Victoria Beckham’s life will be the subject of a new Netflix documentary, from the makers of her husband’s 2023 four-part series.

Titled Victoria Beckham, the three-part docuseries will arrive on October 9 on the streaming service, featuring interviews with David and Victoria Beckham, as well as “leading figures in fashion”. The series will be directed by Nadia Hallgren, who directed Michelle Obama’s Becoming.

Beckham shot to fame as part of the Spice Girls, who dominated the pop charts from 1996 to 2001. Following the group disbanding, she released four solo singles between 2000 and 2003, as well the 2001 album ‘Victoria Beckham’, which release number 10 in the UK charts. Her highest charting outside of the Spice Girls was 2000’s ‘Out Of Your Mind’, a collaboration with Dane Bowers and True Steppers which reached number two in the charts.

While predominately focusing on the fashion industry in the years since, she reunited with her former bandmates for the 2007-2008 The Return Of The Spice Girls tour, and the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony in London. She chose not to return for the ‘Wannabe’ singers’ 2019 reunion tour, citing other commitments, with the remaining members proceeding without her.

A Netflix press release for the forthcoming doc reads: “The series traces Beckham’s story from her formative years and rise to unprecedented success with the Spice Girls, through her high-profile relationship with football legend David Beckham, to her relentless work to establish herself in the cutthroat world of haute couture. Following her journey as she prepares for her most ambitious runway show yet at Paris Fashion Week, the docuseries weaves together past and present to reveal the challenges and triumphs that have defined her — and continue to drive her forward.”

BECKHAM | Be Honest!

David Beckham sneaking into Victoria's interview to keep her honest is cracking me up.

The David Beckham series, titled simply Beckham, was released in 2023 and created a viral moment in the form of a scene where David tells Victoria to “be honest” about her upbringing. According to the former England football captain, the moment angered the series’ director, Succession actor Fisher Stevens.

In May, Victoria’s former bandmate, Mel B, hinted at a possible 30th anniversary Spice Girls tour.

Dave Grohl was pictured outside an Oasis gig, appearing to buy bootleg merchandise from a vendor.

The Gallagher Brothers arrived at The Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, Los Angeles, last weekend (September 6 and 7) as part of the North American leg of their Live ’25 Tour. While there has been plenty of official tie-in merchandise for the Britpop legends’ reunion, including a collaboration with Adidas, the Foo Fighters frontman was pictured outside one of the gigs appearing to buy an unofficial shirt.

Pictures of him talking with a vendor, holding one of the bootleg shirts, and appearing to pay for it have since circulated online. Fans appeared amused by the scene, with one writing on Reddit: “Everybody loves a bootleg!” with another adding: “Lmao he’s so real for that”. Over on X (formerly Twitter), one fan quipped they were “About $50 cheaper” than the official merch.

Grohl has been effusive in his praise for Oasis over the years, calling them “the greatest rock band I’ve ever seen in my life” and calling Liam Gallagher “one of the last remaining rock stars”. Liam appeared to echo that admiration, dedicating ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ to the former Nirvana drummer during a solo gig in London last year.

Noel Gallagher, however, wasn’t a fan of Grohl’s calls for a reunion prior to the band getting back together. In July of last year, he remarked: “I would just like him to wind his fucking neck in about Oasis. I wouldn’t talk to him. I haven’t got time for that fucking mob any more”. He would add: “I haven’t got fuck all to say to him. He’s our kid’s mate anyway.”

Oasis will next play dates in Mexico City before heading back for two extra shows at Wembley Stadium at the end of the month. They go on to play South Korea, Japan, Australia, Argentina, Chile and Brazil before the end of the year.

Dave Grohl was not the only famous face to be enjoying Oasis’ Rose Bowl concerts over the weekend. Paul McCartney, Billie Eilish, and Finneas joined a host of figures from the entertainment industry in the audience. Another attendee was Melissa Lim, the woman who inspired Oasis‘ 1995 track ‘Talk Tonight’.

Louis Tomlinson is teasing his next solo album, saying he’s “got a really, really good feeling” about the project.

The soloist and former One Direction member released his second and latest full-length effort, ‘Faith In The Future’, in 2022.

Taking to X/Twitter today (September 10), Tomlinson shared an update with fans about his upcoming third LP.

“Just sat listening to the new record and I’ve got a really, really good feeling this time round!” he wrote. “Can’t wait for you all to hear it!!”

Later, the star hinted that he was “going to play something new” at this year’s edition of his Away From Home indie festival in New York next month. When a fan asked if this would be “only one new song”, Tomlinson replied: “That wouldn’t be fair would it.”

The singer told his followers last week that it was “about time” he played some new material on stage. He said he was “really excited about” his Away From Home ’25 slot, adding: “Got a few surprises. Should be fun.”

Fans have also been speculating over Tomlinson posting numerous question marks on social media, and whether this is a clue about his next era. Check out a selection of posts below.

According to Music-News.COM, Tomlinson previously described his forthcoming new tracks as “sunny” with some “chaos” when asked by a fan what to expect.

When performing at the Lodz Summer Festival in July, he reportedly revealed that he’d “actually finished the next record”.

Tomlinson’s Away From Home Festival 2025 takes place at the Brewery Ommegang in New York on October 4 and 5. Other performers include Lauv, Steve Aoki, Pale Waves and Circa Waves.

Following on from his 2020 debut, ‘Walls’, Tomlinson’s second album was produced by Mike Crossey, who has worked with the likes of Arctic MonkeysThe 1975 and Wolf Alice. The singer co-wrote the record alongside The Music frontman Rob Harvey, and the songwriting and production team Red Triangle.

During an interview with NME in 2022, the singer said he was “definitely” more comfortable with who he was as an artist compared to when he first went solo.

“That has been a process and I think it’ll be an ever-evolving process as well,” Tomlinson explained. “But I definitely feel really comfortable about just following my heart musically and seeing where it gets me.”

You can revisit NME‘s video interview with Tomlinson above.

Over the summer, the singer hit out at online “conspiracy chat” about his personal life. “It’s just too much and too hurtful for me to see!” he wrote on social media.

In 2023, Tomlinson admitted that he felt some “envy” when his former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles first started becoming successful as a soloist.

Wednesday star Fred Armisen has confirmed that a spin-off about his character Uncle Fester is in the works.

The actor, comedian, musician and writer appeared on an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this week. He was asked about past reports of a new show centred around his character, Uncle Fester Addams.

“Yeah,” Armisen responded. “Yeah, we’re working on it. It’s fantastic… it’s amazing.” He went on to hail Wednesday director and executive producer Tim Burton as “amazing”, adding: “He’s great, great, great.”

Armisen did not give any further details about the spin-off, suggesting it is still in early development. You can watch the interview in full below.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter this summer, Wednesday showrunner and co-creator Alfred Gough spoke about the possibility of a future spin-off. The publication noted that information about the project remained “top secret”.

“It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at,” Gough explained. Netflix chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, added: “There’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.”

Bloomberg reported in late 2023 that Netflix was in the early stages of creating a series about Uncle Fester, the paternal uncle of Wednesday (Jenna Ortega).

It was said at the time that Amazon MGM Studios – which owns the rights to The Addams Family, and produced the Wednesday series – was also on board. According to the report, the show was in early development with no script.

The final episodes of Wednesday season two landed on Netflix last week, with a third season having already been commissioned. It has been reported that the show could run for seven seasons in total.

In a four-star review of Wednesday season twoNME wrote: “A frantic mid-season finale sets things up for an explosive return in September, which will also see the arrival of Lady Gaga’s Rosaline Rotwood. Perhaps that next batch of episodes will take the beloved series to new places after part one sticks carefully to the familiar, if successful, formula.”

Lady Gaga made an appearance in season two as Rosaline Rotwood, but many fans were left disappointed by her limited screen time. The singer wrote a new song for the series, ‘The Dead Dance’, and released a spooky music video directed by Tim Burton.

Speaking at the season two premiere, Gaga explained (via Rolling Stone): “I had a wonderful time working on Wednesday season two, even just being a small part of the show. I loved working with Tim Burton and Jenna [Ortega], and everyone here, it’s so incredible. Thank you.”

D4vd is “fully cooperating” with police after a dead body was found in a Tesla registered in his name.

On Monday (September 8), officers responded to a report of a foul odour coming from an impounded vehicle at a tow yard in Hollywood, Los Angeles. According to police, the car had been there for a couple of days, and the body was discovered inside a bag in the front boot.

There was initially no information about the identity of the deceased because of the level of decomposition. It has since been confirmed that the body is that of a woman (via Los Angeles Times).

The Tesla was registered in Hempstead, Texas, to D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke. The NYC singer-songwriter, who is currently on tour in the US, played a show in Minneapolis, Minnesota last night (September 9).

In a statement, a spokesperson for Butke said he “has been informed about what’s happened, and although he is still out on tour, he is fully cooperating with the authorities”, per NBC News.

According to police sources, the Tesla had been towed from the Bird Streets neighbourhood in the Hollywood Hills after being abandoned five days prior.

The body of another woman was found partially burned inside a Honda Civic at a different tow yard in Los Angeles. However, this incident is said to be related to a missing person report, and is considered by police to be a separate case.

The Hollywood Hills case has been classified as a death investigation, said LAPD officer Charles Miller.

D4vd posted on Instagram on Monday (September 8) to announce the release of a deluxe version of his debut album ‘Withered’, titled ‘Marcescence’. He has also been active on Instagram Stories this week, sharing a photo of himself with fellow singer-songwriter Malcolm Todd.

The Australian psych-rockers currently make up the entirety of Bandcamp's Top 25 digital albums list

The post King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard put albums up for “name your price” on Bandcamp after leaving Spotify in protest appeared first on NME.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have put their albums up on Bandcamp, allowing fans to name their price after withdrawing their music from Spotify.

Back in July, the Australian psych-rock outfit announced they would be pulling their music from the streaming platform over founder Daniel Ek’s funding of the Helsing corporation.

Ek co-founded an investment company, Prima Materia, which invested over €600million in Helsing, a Munich-based company creating drones and artificial intelligence for military operations, per the Financial Times.

At the time, the band wrote on social media: “Hello friends. A PSA to those unaware: Spotify CEO Daniel Ek invests millions in AI military drone technology. We just removed our music from the platform. Can we put pressure on these Dr. Evil tech bros to do better? Join us on another platform.”

The band have since gone one step further, making their music more accessible to listeners on Bandcamp by switching to a name-your-price model, which you can access here.

Fans can pay $0.00 and upwards to download any of the albums, a strategy that, as noted by Consequence, has seen various albums from across their discography top Bandcamp’s best-selling list. These include ‘PetroDragonic Apocalypse; Or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation Of Planet Earth And The Beginning of Merciless Damnation’ and ‘Nonagon Infinity’

The current 27 best-selling albums on the site are all by King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard.

Those joining them in leaving Spotify included Xiu Xiu, who also announced that they were in the process of removing their music from the platform over Ek’s “investment in AI war drones”.

Deerhoof also pulled their catalogue from the streamer for the same reason, stating at the time: “We don’t want our music killing people. We don’t want our success being tied to AI battle tech.”

In recent years, many have been divided about the impact of streaming platforms on the music industry. In 2024, for instance, Ek sparked backlash for his comments relating to the cost of “creating content”, with countless users and musicians describing him as “out of touch”.

Ek later walked back on his comments, explaining in an apology that he had no intention of dismissing the struggles faced by musicians and using the “reductive” label of “content”. The negative response to this was heightened as, around the same time, it was reported that Spotify had made profits of over €1billion (£860m), following staff being laid off and subscription prices rising.

Elsewhere earlier this year, Cradle Of Filth frontman Dani Filth criticised the platform, saying he “owes it” to other musicians not to have an account, while Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante described streaming as the place “where music goes to die”.

The streaming platform also received criticism after it officially demonetised all songs on the platform with less than 1,000 streams – making it harder for artists to generate royalties from their music and restricting new artists looking to crack the music industry.

Last year's Mercury Prize winners English Teacher

The shortlist for the Mercury Prize 2025 was revealed earlier today (September 10) – and fans have been quick to share their thoughts on social media.

The 12 albums up for the award were announced live by Lauren Laverne earlier this morning on BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Sounds.

Among those on the list were CMAT‘s acclaimed third album ‘Euro-Country’Fontaines D.C.‘s ‘Romance’ (the runner-up of NME‘s albums of the year 2024), Pulp‘s comeback record ‘More’PinkPantheress‘ ‘Fancy That’Wolf Alice‘s ‘The Clearing’ and Sam Fender‘s ‘People Watching’.

Other nominees include FKA Twigs (‘Eusexua’), Pa Salieu (‘Afrikan Alien’) and Emma-Jean Thackray (‘Weirdo’).

Earlier this month, it was confirmed that this year’s period of eligibility for albums is over a month longer, meaning the records needed to have been released between July 13 last year and August 29, 2025.

Following the announcement, many took to social media to share their thoughts on the shortlist. Leaving comments under the announcement post in praise of this year’s artists, most were convinced that either Fontaines D.C. or CMAT would win this year.

“The Mercury Prize is basically the only music award I pay any attention to now. No other award show has this interesting an array of nominees, both in size and sound,” wrote one X/Twitter user, with another on Instagram adding: “Best shortlist for years.”

However, some were more reluctant to praise the final list so highly and instead honed in on those who were overlooked.

“So happy for CMAT, FKA Twigs and PinkPantheress,” wrote one fan on Instagram. “But Self Esteem has been well and truly ROBBED.” Another added: “No [Geordie] Greep, BCNR or Jim Legxacy?? Makes no sense!!”

Welsh indie group Los Campesinos! pointed out that artists and labels have to submit an application with an admission fee to be considered for nomination, writing: “This understandably might discourage smaller artists! If the album/artist you love isn’t included it may be because they chose not to apply.”

Several fans were disappointed that records from Little Simz (‘Lotus’), Wet Leg (‘Moisturizer’) and The Cure (‘Songs Of A Lost World’) didn’t make the list.

“Guitar music is coming back baby ..but no The Cure…. Scandalous,” said one fan on Instagram. “Good to see CMAT on there,” another wrote. “No Geordie Greep though? The writing and composition on that record is something else.”

The omission of ‘The New Sound’ was a consistent gripe in the comments section, with one user writing: “No Geordie Greep?! No Laura Marling?! Mercury Prize you’ve lost your head brother.”

Check out more fan responses below.

Last year’s Mercury Prize was held at London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios, and saw English Teacher take home the prestigious award for their universally-acclaimed debut LP, ‘This Could Be Texas’.

The former NME Cover stars were the first non-London act to bag the prize since Edinburgh’s Young Fathers won in 2014.

The Mercury Prize is moving from its traditional home in London to Newcastle this year. This comes as part of a new partnership with Newcastle City Council and the North East Combined Authority. The ceremony will follow a week-long regional fringe programme to “celebrate the depth and diversity of talent in the north and create opportunities for local talent”.

Sheeran previously revealed that his next four LPs would be titled ‘Pause’, ‘Fast Forward’, ‘Rewind’ and ‘Stop’. He has also shared plans to record an album to be released after his death, ‘Eject’.

These will follow his collection of albums inspired by mathematical symbols: ‘Plus’, ‘Multiply’, ‘Divide’, ‘Subtract’ and ‘Equals’.

Now, Sheeran has been quoted by The Sun‘s ‘Bizarre’ column as saying: “I made ‘Play’ and ‘Rewind’ at the same time, and we finished ‘Play’ first because it felt like the most exciting one.

“So ‘Rewind’ is, I’d say, two months off being totally locked and loaded and ready to go.”

As for when fans could expect his next record to arrive, Sheeran said: “I guess at some point in the next 18 months it will come out.”

Sheeran also described ‘Play’ and ‘Rewind’ as “twin albums”, but explained that they are different from one another: “They’re very much like twin albums. But one lent more into Indian culture and one lent more into nostalgia. So they veered off in different directions.”

When asked whether he had struggled to whittle down the tracks for ‘Rewind’, he responded: “Weirdly no, because each song has a purpose.”

He continued: “With each album you have the songs you think are the singles, and then in the gaps… basically you have to do purposeful songs rather than having 10 singles.

“You do a song like ‘Azizam’ and a song like ‘Sapphire’, but then a song like ‘Old Phone’ and ‘A Little More’. I feel like they give the album a journey and purpose rather than it just being bangers.”

Earlier this year, Sheeran revealed that ‘Play’ “was made as a direct response to the darkest period of my life”. Talking about its creation, he explained: “Coming out of all of that I just wanted to create joy and technicolour, and explore cultures in the countries I was touring.

“I made this record all over the world, finished it in Goa, India, and had some of the most fun, explorative, creative days of my life.”

He had previously promised to release new music “every sort of two, three weeks”, and said ‘Play’ was “definitely different” to his past projects. “I think I’ve been more explorative with this album,” Sheeran explained. “I kind of had an attitude of ‘Why the fuck not?'”

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran has announced a UK and European arena tour for this winter – including shows in Manchester and Dublin.
