The release date of Microsoft’s portable device has been leaked

The post This is when the handheld Xbox ROG Ally will launch appeared first on NME.

The release date of the handheld Xbox ROG Ally has reportedly been revealed by an industry insider ahead of a full announcement later this month.

Earlier this year, Microsoft confirmed it would be releasing two handheld Xbox consoles after boss Phil Spencer previously teased that the company was working on “exciting” and “different” ways to play.

Then in June, they officially unveiled the two portable devices. According to Microsoft, the ROG Xbox Ally is “the essential handheld at a great value for everyone from the casual player to the avid enthusiast” while the ROG Xbox Ally X will be “the ultimate high-performance handheld, built for the most demanding players.”

Microsoft will be showing off the handheld Xbox ROG Ally at Gamescom, which takes place later this month in Cologne. “Players can go hands-on with games including Hollow Knight: Silksong, Roblox, Sea Of Thieves and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, with additional hands-on experiences with more games available at the ASUS ROG booth.”

It was heavily rumoured Microsoft would also confirm the release date of the handheld Xbox ROG Ally during the event with two presentations planned for August 20 and August 21. However one reliable industry insider has already revealed the launch date.

According to Dealab’s billbil-kun, both the handheld Xbox ROG Ally and the ROG Ally X will be available October 16 with pre-orders set to go live August 20.

Microsoft has collaborated with Taiwanese manufacturer ASUS for the ROG Xbox Ally and the handheld includes several “new and first-of-their kind features on both devices—from an immersive Xbox full screen experience, an aggregated gaming library with access to installed games from leading PC storefronts, and more.”

In July ASUS leaked the price of the handheld Xbox ROG Ally. According to a listing on their website, the base ROG Xbox Ally will set you back 599 euros (£520) while the more powerful ROG Xbox Ally will cost 899 euros (£780).

Microsoft has yet to officially confirm the release date, price point or pre-order details for the ROG Xbox Ally but the technical specifications for the new consoles can be seen here. Fans can sign up for updates here.

The company has also revealed the very first details about the successor to the Xbox Switch X/S, which is rumoured to launch in 2027.

In other news, the team behind the original Guitar Hero are working on a new rhythm game. “We’re not just making games, we’re creating connected rhythm experiences that unite cutting-edge controllers, genre-defining titles, and a thriving community, all moving to the same beat,” said the relaunched RedOctane studio.

Microsoft has confirmed it won’t be going ahead with a planned price increase for Xbox games this holiday season.

Earlier this year, Microsoft confirmed a series of global price hikes with the cost of the Xbox Series X/S console and a number of accessories getting more expensive. From May, UK gamers have had to pay £50 more for the basic 512gb Xbox Series S while the more powerful 2tb Xbox Series X received a £40 price increase.

“We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development,” Microsoft explained in a statement at the time. “Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and ensuring value for Xbox players.”

The company also revealed that it “expects to adjust the pricing of some of our new, first-party games starting this holiday season to $79.99.” Yesterday (July 24) Microsoft backtracked on that promise.

And they’re making changes right away. The Outer Worlds 2 is set to launch on October 25 and has been available to pre-order for $79.99 but yesterday developers Obsidian confirmed they would be “revising” the pricing. The game is now available to pre-order for $69.99 with refunds on the way for anyone who purchased it for the higher price.

In a statement a Microsoft spokesperson added: “We’re focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore, and will keep our full-priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99, in line with current market conditions.”

Earlier this year, Nintendo received backlash for its variable pricing structure for Switch 2 games. A physical copy of Mario Kart World costs £74.99 while a digital version of new 3D platformer Donkey Kong Bananza is £58.88 while the physical edition will set you back £66.99.

Explaining the set-up, Nintendo Of America’s President Doug Bowser said the company would look at “the development that’s gone into the game, the breadth and depth of the gameplay, the durability over time and the repeatability of gameplay experiences,” to determine the right price.

In other news, It looks like the controversial skins that have split the Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 fanbase will make a return in Black Ops 7.

The price of Microsoft’s portable device have been leaked

The post This is how much the handheld Xbox ROG Ally will cost appeared first on NME.

It seems the price of the handheld Xbox ROG Ally has been revealed by Microsoft’s development partner ASUS.

Earlier this year, Microsoft confirmed it would be releasing two handheld Xbox consoles after boss Phil Spencer previously teased that the company was working on “exciting” and “different” ways to play.

Last month, they officially unveiled the two portable devices. Due to launch later this year, the ROG Xbox Ally is “the essential handheld at a great value for everyone from the casual player to the avid enthusiast” while the ROG Xbox Ally X will be “the ultimate high-performance handheld, built for the most demanding players.”

However it seems that ASUS has accidentally leaked how much the new Xbox consoles will cost.

As reported by 3DJuegos, the Spanish division of ASUS revealed the price after it updated the product listings on their website. According to the listings the ROG Xbox Ally will set you back 599 euros (£520) while the more powerful ROG Xbox Ally will cost 899 euros (£780).

The leak matches up with a report from an industry insider last month, who also claimed pre-orders will go live in August. However Microsoft has yet to officially confirm the release date, price point or pre-order details for the ROG Xbox Ally but the technical specifications for the new consoles can be seen here.

It’s also likely that the console will vary in price across the world due to fluctuating exchange rates and Donald Trump’s controversial import taxes.

Earlier this year, Microsoft confirmed price hikes for its Xbox Series X/S console, first-party games and accessories. “We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development,” Microsoft explained in a statement. “Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and ensuring value for Xbox players.”

In other news, It doesn’t look like the rumoured remake of Tony Hawk’s Underground is going ahead after the team behind Pro Skater 3+4 were reportedly laid off.

It will be backwards compatible and offer "the next generation of graphics innovation"

Microsoft has confirmed it’s working on a new Xbox – here’s everything we know about the next-generation console.

Earlier this month, Microsoft confirmed its first handheld console, the ROG Ally, would be released later this year. Now the company has shared the first details about the successor to the Xbox Series X/S.

According to a short video hosted by Xbox president Sarah Bond, Microsoft has teamed up with hardware company AMD in a “strategic, multi-year partnership” to co-engineer silicon, which will be used in the creation of microchips for computers and consoles.

“Together with AMD, we’re advancing the state of art in gaming silicon to deliver the next generation of graphics innovation, to unlock a deeper level of visual quality and immersive gameplay and player experiences enhanced with the power of AI,” she explained before confirming that the new Xbox console will be backwards compatible.

The handheld ROG Ally Xbox console will only be able to run games that have a PC counterpart, but it seems that issue has been solved for the new home console. “At Xbox, our vision is for you to play the games you want, with the people you want, anywhere you want. That’s why we’re investing in our next-generation hardware lineup, across console, handheld, cloud, PC and accessories,” Bond continued, before adding Xbox users wouldn’t be locked to a “single store or device” in the future.

“We’re working closely with Windows to ensure that Windows is the number one platform for gaming. The next generation of Xbox is coming to life, and this is just the beginning. We can’t wait to show you what’s next.”

Microsoft hasn’t confirmed a release date, name or price point for the new console, but several reports suggest that the new Xbox could be released at some point in 2027. The announcement comes after rumours that Microsoft was going to stop creating consoles and focus on games, like Sega did following the launch of the Dreamcast in 1998.

In other news, Microsoft has confirmed another wave of titles coming to Xbox Game Pass this June after revealing an impressive list of Day One releases heading to the subscription service in the coming months.

“Built to make it easier than ever to access your favourite games”

Microsoft has confirmed details of its long-awaited handheld console, the ROG Xbox Ally.

Last year, Xbox teased it was working on a handheld console to rival the Nintendo Switch. In June, boss Phil Spencer said “the future for us in hardware is pretty awesome. The work that the team is doing around different form factors, different ways to play, I’m incredibly excited about.”

A few months later he said that the “expectation is that we would do something” in the handheld gaming space, with a team already working on prototypes.

Now Microsoft has confirmed two new handheld consoles will be released later this year.

The ROG Xbox Ally is “the essential handheld at a great value for everyone from the casual player to the avid enthusiast” while the ROG Xbox Ally X will be “the ultimate high-performance handheld, built for the most demanding players.”

“Everything at Xbox starts with the player,” continued a statement from Microsoft. “That’s why we’ve dedicated years to reimagining how to make it easier to enjoy the games you love—wherever you are. Whether you’re at home or on the go, your favourite games should follow you.”

The handheld consoles will see Microsoft collaborate with Taiwanese manufacturer ASUS and include several “new and first-of-their kind features on both devices—from an immersive Xbox full screen experience, an aggregated gaming library with access to installed games from leading PC storefronts, and more.”

It’s been confirmed that ROG Xbox Ally owners will have access to all games that are available on Xbox Game Pass, while Fortnite will also be playable on the handheld.

Details about price, release date and pre-order details are yet to be confirmed, but Microsoft has shared the technical specifications for the new console here.

Players in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States will be able to get the ROG Xbox Ally later this year, while other markets will have to wait until 2026.

In other news, Microsoft has confirmed 18 huge Day One releases will be available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers in the coming months including the recently-announced Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7. The sequel to last year’s Black Ops 6 will be set in 2035 and star Milo Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka and Michael Rooker.

Xbox has confirmed what games will be coming to its Xbox Game Pass service this month.

Xbox Game Pass is a Netflix-style streaming service for consoles and PC, that allows players access to hundreds of different titles for one monthly payment. The library of available games is always changing though.

As it stands, Xbox Game Pass will only receive two new games this February, but they’re big ones.

Far Cry New Dawn will join the service tomorrow (February 4) and will be available for all Standard, Ultimate and PC subscribers. Originally released in 2019, Far Cry New Dawn is a sequel to 2018’s Far Cry 5 and the open-world first-person shooter is set 17 years after a nuclear event devastated the world, with players taking on the role of Security Captain to try and help other survivors.

Later this month, Avowed will be a Day One release on Xbox Game Pass. It will be available for all Ultimate and PC subscribers on February 18.

A spin-off from the Pillars Of Eternity franchise, Avowed is set in the Living Lands, which developers have described as “a mysterious island filled with adventure and danger”.

“The Living Lands is an island where the air hums with ancient magic, the flora seems to move with a mind of its own, and the ground beneath your feet shifts with secrets waiting to be unearthed,” continues the description of Obsidian’s fantasy role-playing game.

“As an envoy of Aedyr, you are sent to investigate rumors of a spreading plague with a secret that threatens to destroy everything. Can you save the island and your soul from the forces threatening to tear them apart?”

In the coming months, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will get access to Atomfall, South Of Midnight, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Doom: The Dark Ages

However February will also see a number of different games leave the service including Return To Grace, Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night, Tales Of Arise, Merge & Blade, Indivisible and A Little To The Left. Check out the full list here.

In other news, Fallout: New Vegas writer John Gonzalez has denied a sequel to the hit game is in the works after rejoining Obsidian.

The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria has been on PlayStation and PC since late 2023, but now the Dwarvern survival game is finally coming to Xbox.

Return to Moria is a survival-crafting game set in the Fourth Age, after the defeat of Sauron and the destruction of The One Ring. It features the Dwarves returning to Moria, a settlement within the Misty Mountains they’d previously abandoned after digging too deep and uncovering the demonic Balrog. But, with it slain at the hands of Gandalf, the mountain and all its riches are just there for the taking.

In the game, you’ll have to manage your Dwarf’s hunger, sleep, body temperature, and willpower as you descend deeper into the depths of the procedurally generated mines. You fight all manner of beasties down in the darkness, and you get to build up your ideal Dwarvern settlement with all the materials you gather.

The game is now heading to Steam and Xbox August 27. It also features voice acting from none other than Gimli himself, John Rhys-Davies. “Actors often create characters out of love and it’s very hard, sometimes, to let them go,” Rhys’Davies says. “Certainly, Gimli is, for me, a character that I really adore, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to reprise him in a different context.”

He tasks players with the retrival of the realms lost treasures, and if there’s one thing we know Dwarves love, it’s treasure. You can go on this journey alone, offline, enjoying everything at your leisure. But, if you’d rather play with friends, you can do so too, via online co-op.

In other news, Red Dead Redemption 2 actor Roger Clarke revealed the hardest thing about doing motion capture for Arthur Morgan, and it’s not what you’d expect.

Microsoft have raised their prices for the Xbox Game Pass.

As reported by The Verge, the price changes came in last night (July 9), with the price of Game Pass Ultimate going up from £12.99 per month to £14.99 per month in the UK, or £49.99 to £54.99 per year. The PC Game Pass is also rising from £7.99 per month to £9.99 per month. All these price changes are currently only for new customers, not existing ones who are already subscribed.

While this may seem like a fairly standard price increase, Microsoft did claim during its acquisition of Activision Blizzard King last year that buying the Call Of Duty studio wouldn’t lead to an increase in subscription fees. While its wording didn’t rule out a price increase entirely, only stating one wouldn’t happen directly because of the deal, fans are still annoyed.

Another change to the overall promise of Game Pass, is the new Standard tier. This is currently priced at $14.99 a month and won’t include cloud gaming or day one access to the first-party games Microsoft puts on Game Pass. This feature was arguably the biggest draw to the service, as it meant people would be able to play the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 at no extra cost when it launches later this year.

A lack of access to cloud gaming for this tier is also a knock to the value of the service. It allows gamers to stream games directly to their consoles without having the need for large installs.

In other news, House of the Dragon actor Abubakar Salim has spoken out about the abuse he received online after launching a game about the grief he felt following the death of his father.

Is Zenless Zone Zero coming to Xbox?

HoYoverse‘s next massive RPG is set to launch on July 4, 2024, and Xbox players are keen to know if they will finally get to see just what the team is able to create as both Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail have skipped the platform.

Below you can find out the latest on what Hoyoverse have said about a Xbox release of the RPG.

Is ‘Zenless Zone Zero’ coming to Xbox?

It doesn’t look like Zenless Zone Zero is coming to Xbox any time soon. The game is currently a PlayStation excluisive and HoYoverse hasn’t made any commitments or suggestions that the game will come to Xbox in the future either.

In an interview with IGN, producer Zhenyu Li said that the studio is “working to bring Zenless Zone Zero to Nintendo Switch and Xbox,” but this was framed as more of a wish than an actual commitment.

Therefore, you shouldn’t expect to see the game on Xbox, as none of HoYoverse’s other games have come to the platform. There are likely several reasons for this. Xbox as a brand isn’t as big in Asia as it is elsewhere in the world. Additionally, few Asian developers actually bring their games to Xbox themselves, with Phil Spencer pushing to bring more games from the continent to the platform and Game Pass.

There is a chance we could see the game hit Xbox down the line, but it is very unlikely.

In case you haven’t been keeping up on the latest details for the game, Zenless Zone Zero it is an urban fantasy ARPG in which a calamity called Hollows – an abnormal spherical dimension that appears out of thin air and swallows everything it touches – destroys modern society. Set in New Eridu, players assume the role of Proxy and join up with characters to explore Hollows, combat enemies, complete commissions, and reveal the mysteries of the metropolis.

While Zenless Zone Zero isn’t hitting Xbox, you can take a look at a bunch of games coming to the platform this year with our roundup of games announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024.
