After briefly yielding the top position in recent weeks, Cococartoon’s “Ne Zha 2” reclaimed the top spot at the China box office for the weekend of April 18–20.
The animated juggernaut earned RMB 28.9 million ($4 million), pushing its cumulative gross to $2.116 billion, according to Artisan Gateway. Now in its twelfth weekend, the film continues to extend its record as the highest-grossing title of 2025 by a wide margin.
“We Girls” from Meila Media slipped to second place but remained a strong performer, taking in $3.8 million in its third weekend. Directed by Feng Xiaogang, “We Girls” follows Gao Yuexiang (played by Zhao Liying), who, in a desperate bid to afford a cochlear implant for her daughter, takes a reckless action that lands her in prison. There, she meets fellow inmates Hei Mei (Lan Xiya), Deng Hong (Chuai Ni), Hu Ping (Wang Ju), and Guo Aimei (Cheng Xiao). Despite their differing personalities, the women form a bond, supporting each other through adversity and refusing to bow to fate.
Warner Bros. and Legendary’s “A Minecraft Movie” followed in third with $2.9 million. The adaptation of the iconic video game has grossed $24.2 million to date in China.

“Mumu”, from CKF Pictures, remained in fourth place with $1.7 million, bringing its total to $17.5 million. The film, directed by Mo Sha, follows a seven-year-old girl who grows up in a deaf community with her father and whose life is disrupted when her estranged mother returns and reintroduces her to the world of hearing.
Shanghai Film Group’s “Fox Hunt” rounded out the top five with $1.6 million. The political thriller about China’s global anti-corruption campaign now stands at $9.1 million.
Total weekend box office earnings reached $20.2 million, marginally lower than the previous frame. Still, the 2025 year-to-date gross rose to $3.51 billion, representing a 39% increase compared to the same period last year.
