The Four Musketeers continues the story of Oliver Reed, Richard Chamberlain, Frank Finlay and Michael York as they joust with evil plotter Charlton Heston and evil seductress Faye Dunaway, defend fair lady queen Geraldine Chaplin, bypass imbecile King Jean Pierre Cassel, and eventually triumph over arch fiend Christopher Lee.
The same mixture of teenybopper naughtiness, acne spiciness, contrived tastelessness and derring don’t as found in the earlier film (The Three Musketeers) are laid on with the same deft trowel herein. Perhaps the film is a triumph of controlled and deliberate mediocrity, but it still closer resembles a clumsy carbon of a bad satire on the original. 1975: Nomination: Best Costume Design
