Dirk S. Schmeller

Dirk Schmeller is a CNRS research director (senior researcher) and holder of the Chair of Functional Mountain Ecology at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique de Toulouse (ENSAT). He has more than 30 years of research experience in the field of conservation biology. Over the years, his research has constantly developed and allowed him to innovate, establish and study new contexts with the aim of protecting nature and biodiversity. His scientific expertise includes population genetics and biology, evolutionary ecology, applied ecology, behavioural ecology, ecological epidemiology, and research in functional ecology. His research profile is not only characterized by a multidisciplinary view, but also a global view on research questions. Since his arrival in France in 2007, he focused more and more on mountain research and is an expert on mountain lake ecology. He conducts ecological research in the framework of OneHealth / EcoHealth to further our understanding of the interlinkage between biodiversity, water, climate change and health.
