As a Fulbright and Mellon scholar, I earned my Ph.D. from Stanford University’s Department of Anthropology. I hold an M.A. in geography from the University of Washington and a B.A. in geography with environmental studies from Dartmouth College. I currently teach anthropology at City College of San Francisco. I previously taught anthropology and writing and rhetoric at Stanford University from 2013 to 2018. My areas of focus include environmental studies, gender studies, and southern Africa. I published my first book, Steeped in Heritage: The Racial Politics of South African Rooibos Tea, with Duke University Press in 2017.
In addition to scholarly work published in peer-reviewed journals and books, I have written for National Geographic News, National Geographic Kids News, and Sierra Magazine.
