Olivier Burtin

I am a historian of the modern United States, with a particular interest in state and society, war and peace, and the U.S. in the world. My current research focuses on the intersection of warfare and welfare in 20th-century U.S. politics, about which I wrote a book (A Nation of Veterans: War, Citizenship, and the Welfare State in Modern America, University of Pennsylvania Press, 2022).
