After a while, I returned to Tokubee for some kakigori (shaved ice)! I tried their new rare cheese flavor, which is a twist on the fig-flavored ice they previously offered. It had milk panna cotta and blueberries inside. The crispy pastry was great too! This kind of dessert is definitely my style! It was absolutely delicious\(^o^)/! It was a great meal.

Before the busy season starts, I decided to invite my partner to go together, and they agreed! They were planning to have lunch at our second stop, but I was just there for the shaved ice. This time, they introduced the new white peach shaved ice! It seemed pretty standard in its composition, but the combination of white peach sauce and anglaise is always a winner! It was definitely delicious!\(^o^)/ I also tried a piece of the fried chicken, and it had a flavor I love! ☆ My partner opted for the same almond flavored shaved ice as before, but they mentioned it tasted even better now that it's warming up. (laughs) It was a great meal!

Finally, my partner and I visited this place together for the first time. I had come once before on a busy night near the end of the year, but it was fully booked for a drinking party and I couldn't get in (>_<). This time, we came back for a weekday lunch! We arrived around 1:30 PM, which was a bit late, but luckily we managed to place our order for the kakigori before last call. Thanks to the skillful service from the experienced staff, we were able to enjoy all these dishes and finish them before closing time. ( ^人^ ) Starting with lunch... It had been quite a while since my last visit in 2021. I chose the healthy dashi-maki (Japanese rolled omelet). My partner immediately went for the curry udon after seeing it on YouTube, and we ordered a mini kakigori with almond flavor. The dashi-maki was even more delicious than I remembered from a previous a la carte order! The surprise was the small dish stand, which made me laugh! (laughs) As for the kakigori, I avoided ordering a dessert and went for pudding instead. It has changed shape to round—it seemed firmer when it was triangular? The taste is still incredibly delicious! Since it’s usually just one serving of kakigori for me, it was nice to have two this time. First, I had curry. I couldn't believe the recipe had changed! The main spice was curry powder, and the nata de coco was replaced by red kidney beans. Even though there was more curry powder than before, I found it didn’t leave a lingering taste afterward, which was interesting. I personally liked the new version because it was easier to eat. I liked both the nata de coco and the beans! The second one was this year’s Valentine kakigori, orange chocolate. Although it's called Valentine, it will be available until the end of March. On the day of my visit, they had less stock, so I got the regular chocolate bavarois, but it usually comes in the shape of a cat. With marshmallow, whipped cream, and orange filling, it had a chocolatey overall taste that was perfectly sweet but not too heavy—refreshing indeed! It was absolutely delicious! My partner hardly ever eats kakigori locally, so I was really happy that he tried it! I was nervous about his reaction (^_^;). Maybe because he’s used to the shaved ice from Nara and Gifu, he ended up with a headache from it (laughs), but he said the syrup was delicious and he wanted to eat it again, so I’m glad! o(^o^)o It was a great meal.

This year, the new year's menu featuring sake lees shaved ice has started, and I couldn't wait to try it! When it arrived, I noticed it was a little different from last year's, which made me excited to dig in. I usually ask about the ingredients after my meal, but I often find I'm surprised by what’s included! This year's ingredients were as follows: ◆ Arare (rice crackers) ◆ Honey ◆ Sake lees syrup ◆ Lemon juice ◆ Milk syrup ◆ Salted tofu The base of the sake lees syrup remained the same, but the kinako (roasted soybean flour), red bean, and strawberry sauce were gone. Initially, it hits you with a strong flavor of the sake lees, followed by the sweetness of the honey, giving it a rich taste. Then, the overall balance is a touch refreshing. I learned about salted tofu for the first time—when you sprinkle salt on tofu and let it sit for a few hours, it loses moisture and takes on a cheese-like texture. While eating it, I thought, "What is this... mozzarella cheese? Wait, something feels different..." It was fascinating! Being low in calories and rich in protein makes it guilt-free as well. I loved last year's Japanese-style version, but this one was equally delicious! It seems they plan to introduce a lot of new dishes this year, and I’m really looking forward to that! It was a great meal.

The long-awaited pumpkin kakigori has finally arrived!\(^o^)/ I absolutely love pumpkin, just as much as I love chocomint and pudding!\(^o^)/ The slightly revamped 2023 version includes the following ingredients: ◆ Three-colored dango ◆ Pumpkin seeds ◆ Silver dragées ◆ Caramel sauce ◆ Pumpkin syrup ◆ Unsweetened whipped cream with mascarpone ◆ Milk syrup ◆ Caramel syrup ◆ Simmered pumpkin ◆ Custard ice cream I feel nostalgic about the three-colored dango that used to top the seasonal cherry blossom kakigori in spring! The presentation, form, and balance are simply beautiful. The whipped cream, with a hint of mascarpone, adds more richness and makes it even more delicious. Compared to last year's hojicha syrup, the milk and caramel blend perfectly with the pumpkin, and it's exactly my kind of combination! And the custard ice cream inside is exceptionally delicious; I was blown away! (((o(*゚∀゚*)o))) I simply want to enjoy the ice cream on its own as well (laughs). I love pumpkin kakigori too much! This is definitely one of my top recommendations! It was a great meal.

After a while, I visited Tokubee for some nighttime shaved ice. I didn't have a specific flavor in mind today; it was a spur-of-the-moment visit. I heard the chocolate mint flavor was sold out, but I was thrilled to find they still had some in stock (≧ω≦). It seems even more delicious than before! The presentation looks fantastic! The chocolate sauce was a bit less than last time, which suited my taste perfectly! Even as it melts, I can enjoy it as mint milk, making every last drop delightful. Honestly, it's just so incredibly delicious (≧▽≦). My craving for chocolate mint has been fulfilled! Soon, the popular pumpkin shaved ice will be available. The curry shaved ice is a classic and can be enjoyed anytime! And they have added that amazing homemade pudding to the dessert menu (\(^o^)/). My recommendations are the pudding, pumpkin, and mint! If you like these flavors, definitely give them a try. You won’t be able to resist coming back for more! Thank you for the wonderful meal!

This was my 30th visit! It's the most frequently visited restaurant in the Hokusei area. I'm surprised there aren't any other places nearby that I frequent this much (laughs). They have a new menu item... curry kakigori! It's the first time I've seen savory kakigori! I’ve had nearly 300 bowls up until now, but I never thought I'd try curry (laughs). Since Tokubee is famous for their curry udon, I had high expectations! I also wanted something sweet, so for my first bowl, I chose the almond kakigori, which I hadn't had in a while. It was simple but in a good way, and really delicious! As for the curry kakigori, I found it a bit smaller than usual. Here’s what’s included: ◆ Fried onion ◆ Mixed spices ◆ Milk syrup ◆ Corn ◆ Almond syrup ◆ Yogurt ◆ Chickpeas ◆ Nata de Coco The first flavor that hits you is the spices! Maybe garam masala or cardamom? Then the milk, almond, and yogurt add a mild sweetness to the mix. The chickpeas and nata de coco, along with the crispy fried onions on top, create a fantastic crunchy texture! Strangely enough, the curry spice lingers in your mouth, so it doesn’t even feel like you’re eating kakigori (laughs). It’s addictive! You won't find this flavor anywhere else. They say seeing is believing... so please try it at least once. I definitely want to have this again! Thank you for the lovely meal.

Attention all Choco Mint fans! Guess what? Tokubee has launched a highly anticipated new creation... the long-awaited Choco Mint Kakigori (shaved ice)! (((o(*゚∀゚*)o))) Before becoming a kakigori enthusiast, I was all about matcha, and before that, I was a devoted Choco Mint fan (of course, I love both forever). I've eaten every kind of sweet imaginable, including store-bought treats. This week, I absolutely have to go, so I headed to Suzuka during my trip to Yokkaichi. I couldn't visit much since they had been closed for dinner service for a while, but I'm thrilled that lunch service has resumed from May 3rd (except Wednesdays and Sundays)! It used to be a summer-only offering, but it will continue, which makes me incredibly happy! I’ll definitely be a regular now—(laughs) Orders are now taken via a touch panel. I haven't been told the specifics, but based on my tasting experience, it has unsweetened whipped cream topped with mint leaves, Oreos, chocolate chips, and a bit of jelly. I thought I detected a hint of lychee flavor as well (sorry if I'm wrong). As I excitedly continued to eat, I discovered... there was Choco Mint ice cream inside, which was a delightful surprise! I ordered it with less chocolate sauce, so towards the end, it was just the mint syrup, which was incredibly delicious! The beautiful mint color and refreshing taste were spot on. This is a kakigori that all Choco Mint lovers can agree is amazing! To my surprise, the mint syrup is homemade, crafted from freshly sourced mint leaves! I can't believe this is their first attempt at mint syrup—it has incredible quality. They truly are professionals! This should definitely not be a limited-time offering. In fact, during the colder months, when Choco Mint treats disappear from the streets, I would love for them to serve this year-round. It was a fantastic meal!

I came to try the first new kakigori of the year. It's a winter-themed sake kasu (sake lees) ice. The components are up to your judgment, but here's what I found: ◆ Arare (rice crackers) ◆ Sake kasu syrup ◆ Kinako (roasted soybean flour) ◆ Azuki beans ◆ Milk syrup ◆ Strawberry sauce (served separately) The aroma of sake kasu is delightful and fills the air. The crunchy texture of the arare combined with the untouched kinako creates a delicious experience. Inside, there are homemade azuki beans made by the staff. Unlike the usual sweet red bean paste, these are lightly sweetened and mostly just azuki, making them enjoyable even for someone like me who isn't fond of anko (sweet red bean paste). The strawberry sauce adds an unexpected twist! It’s said to be the same as the one used for strawberry kakigori, but this one is thicker and richer. After enjoying the sake kasu syrup, I drizzled the strawberry sauce on top, turning it into a delightful strawberry milk treat. By the way, the limited menu items like pudding and pumpkin, aside from the classic kakigori, now require reservations made by the day before. Since they are closed on Wednesdays, if you plan to visit on Thursday, be sure to make a reservation by Tuesday. Thank you for the delicious treat!

I hadn't eaten that exquisite pumpkin kakigori since the end of February 2021, and I was thrilled to have it again! It's my second favorite kakigori after pudding! It has definitely leveled up. Here's what’s included: ◆ Pumpkin seeds ◆ Dried fruits ◆ Almonds ◆ Caramel sauce ◆ Pumpkin syrup ◆ Unsweetened whipped cream ◆ Milk syrup ◆ Caramel syrup ◆ Stewed pumpkin ◆ Hojicha brown sugar syrup I was pleasantly surprised to find stewed pumpkin inside! With all these toppings, it sounds rich, but they managed to keep the sweetness in check, making it delicious until the very end. Personally, I think the dried fruits and almonds might not be necessary. It was a great meal!

I went to enjoy shaved ice in September! I had never tried the hojicha, which used to be a regular menu item, and I was disappointed when it left the menu. However, I was thrilled to see it return as a monthly special, so I definitely wanted to try it. I also indulged in the shiratama (sweet rice dumplings) and red bean paste, which I usually skip, but since it was Tokubee, I made an exception. The hojicha ice was topped with mascarpone cream sprinkled with kinako (roasted soybean flour). On one side, there was sweet red bean paste and four shiratama balls filled with hojicha ice. It’s said that the shiratama contains some tofu, which is a clever idea! The kinako, which melts when drizzled on the ice, can be enjoyed without it dissolving when added to the cream, which is a nice touch. The ice cream was divided into portions, making it easy to eat, and it's clear they've learned a lot from eating shaved ice out of state. The hojicha syrup is delicious too, made from high-quality tea leaves from Kyoto. Personally, I prefer hojicha over matcha! As for the red bean paste, it’s homemade, with a subtly sweet flavor and large beans—almost all red bean! Even if you're not a fan of red bean paste, you’ll probably be able to eat this! It’s packed with protein, gentle on the body, and overall, it was an incredibly delicious shaved ice treat. Thank you for the great meal!

It's been three months since my last visit, but it feels like half a year since I've been here! (laughs) I finally came to try the summer menu's orange kakigori. I heard it's available only until August, so I was cutting it close! (^^; I wish I could have tried the mascarpone version, too. Maybe it was the cooler temperature after Obon, but it felt calm, and I was able to sit right away. The composition is simple: milk syrup, orange syrup, and milk agar. The orange syrup was quite sweet, but it finished off refreshing at the end. Personally, I really enjoyed the milk agar!☆ If the base were soft serve ice cream instead of shaved ice, it would taste like an orange parfait! (^^) It was so good that I feel it's a shame it's ending soon. It seems like the ice shavings have changed from before... or is it just my imagination? The shavings felt a bit longer and finer. I prefer finely shaved ice that absorbs the syrup well and has a nice texture. (^^) I'm already looking forward to the next seasonal flavor, so I will definitely come back! It was a great meal.

After enjoying the seafood rice bowl lunch, we headed to our third spot for kakigori (shaved ice). Tokubee, which recently started lunch service, is nearby, so we went straight there! This year, they are offering a rotating lunch menu daily (even on weekends). By the way, today’s special was chicken tempura with tartar sauce. Currently, they have 9 different varieties of kakigori available (please see the photo). I've already tried them all, so this is my second round. I went for my favorites: strawberry chocolate and, once again, the pudding flavor (laughs). The strawberry chocolate has a layer of chocolate under the strawberry topping, while the bottom layer is a refreshing milk syrup. I assume this reflects the owner's attention to detail (*´ω`*) I usually don't order chocolate-flavored kakigori elsewhere, but I was genuinely impressed by the one at Tokubee. I've been back multiple times for their pudding kakigori! It’s the only place I’ve eaten the same flavor more than twice. I love their anglaise sauce so much! I was really glad to get to try the last cup of pudding kakigori on that day! The place was fully booked, and it was my first time on the second floor, which was surprisingly quiet and comfortable, with the restroom conveniently nearby. It was such a great experience (laughs). Thank you for the delicious meal today!

I rushed to the place after hearing that the pudding ice was back on the menu!\(^o^)/ I've tried various options, including in Nara, but this still holds the top spot on my personal ranking. The American cherries were replaced with oranges, and the increased granola added a delightful crunch. The unsweetened whipped cream and the pudding inside remained the same as before. On this day, the anglaise sauce turned out to be a bit thin, but the light flavor was enjoyable in its own way. From May to September, they will finally resume lunch service, so I will definitely be coming back! (≧▽≦) Can't wait! It was a great meal.

On this day, I came from Kameyama to Suzuka, so I visited again three days later (laughs). I thought I should try the limited menu while I can (since I mostly eat new items), so I ordered the strawberry milk with whipped cream. This was my third visit, and it’s been quite a while since my last visit—this is actually my 22nd time here! Back then, I had the mini size, but of course, today I went for the regular size (*^.^*) Tokubee's whipped cream is unsweetened, so I felt less guilty (laughs). It tasted a bit like strawberry rare cheesecake, and it was delicious! The difference between having whipped cream and not having it is huge! The way the syrup is poured has changed since the restaurant opened, allowing me to enjoy both the strawberry and milk parts, which was great. I suddenly craved the strawberry & chocolate half! That one had rock salt on it, right? The rock salt is so addictive~♪ (secretly my favorite) Also, the other day while looking at the izakaya menu, I was intrigued by the chawanmushi (savory egg custard) and dashimaki tamago (rolled omelet), so I decided to try the dashimaki tamago. The dashi came in a separate container, just like the Akashiyaki (octopus balls)! It was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I took a break from shaved ice for a while, and this was my first visit in a long time. I heard that they have brought back shaved ice for the evening, so I was eager to check it out! It’s quite rare for me to have shaved ice at night. The menu has been reduced, and as of February, they offer the classic strawberry and matcha flavors, along with seasonal options like sake kasu with kumquat and cassis chocolate. Last year, I had the Valentine’s Day shaved ice at Tokubee, and it was so delicious that I wanted to try the cassis chocolate this year. Here’s what it included: ◆ Mint leaves ◆ Edible flower sweets ◆ Pink rock salt ◆ Cocoa powder ◆ Chocolate whipped cream ◆ Pie ◆ Chocolate sauce ◆ Chocolate syrup ◆ Cassis confiture ◆ Milk syrup It’s quite common to see rock salt sprinkled on fruity or savory ice, but I wonder if anyone has ever done it with chocolate before. This was my first time seeing it! You can clearly see it on top of the cream! Since it doesn’t dissolve in the ice, the saltiness is distinct. The cream and ice match perfectly, and this is such a brilliant idea (●^o^●). The crunchiness of the pie is also delightful—I love the combination of ice and pie! The chocolate isn’t overly sweet, which is just right. The transition to the sweetness and acidity of the cassis in the middle is wonderful◎. Finally, the milk syrup adds a refreshing touch. I love the texture of the shaved ice, and it looks beautiful☆ It’s amazing to be able to enjoy shaved ice like this in Mie, just like at a popular urban shop (* ´ ▽ ` *). Plus, being able to relax and enjoy it alone in a warm private room with hot tea is pure bliss (* ´ ▽ ` *). Thank you for the wonderful experience!

I had the limited edition fig shaved ice on the last day of September. The components are as follows: ◆ Mint leaves ◆ Unsweetened whipped cream ◆ Dried fruits ◆ Fig flesh ◆ Fig syrup ◆ Black tea syrup ◆ Custard The base is black tea syrup, offering a flavor reminiscent of a combination of shaved ice and black tea. The sweetness was just right! The fig syrup is integrated both on top and inside, with plenty of custard packed inside! The dried fruits used as toppings don’t seem to be figs. Overall, the dish has a light taste, and the richness of the whipped cream adds a lovely accent. The mint and custard remind me of the pudding-shaved ice (laughs). It's a delightful treat for fig lovers, truly a satisfying experience! 😊 Starting in October, the popular pumpkin flavor will be returning. This year, there will actually be three different types, so please check Instagram for details. The summer crowds have calmed down completely. During the summer, I get so busy trying various other shaved ice that I can hardly visit (T_T). Still, I can't resist the new items (laughs), so I managed to visit a few times. On the contrary, as it gets colder, I might end up visiting more frequently without having to wait (laughs). Thank you for today’s delicious meal!
A year-round izakaya offering Instagram-worthy shaved ice
On the way back from Yokkaichi, I persuaded my partner to stop by Tokubee for some kakigori (shaved ice). Since my partner was tired, they took a little break as a hunter (laughs). Since this was around 2 PM on a weekend, I've never been here at that time and was wondering if it would be crowded. Luckily, it turned out to be a perfect timing, and we were able to find an empty table! As summer is finally in full swing, it looks like weekends are getting busier. Some items were sold out due to syrup shortages, so if you have a specific flavor in mind, I recommend visiting early. The first bowl I tried was the new black sesame kakigori. The components are as follows: ◆ Goji Berries ◆ Unsweetened Whipped Cream ◆ Black Sesame ◆ Black Sesame Syrup ◆ Milk Syrup ◆ Black Sesame Tofu ◆ Black Sesame Ice Cream This year, I've also been trying different kakigori that I didn’t taste last year, and one of them is black sesame! It seems to be packed with nutrition and is good for the body (*´艸`*). First of all, its monochrome appearance is so stylish! Of course, it's lightly sweetened, giving it a very adult-like kakigori feel! I was surprised to find that black sesame pairs so well with kakigori. It was delicious!☆ The second bowl was a pudding kakigori that I had just eaten a few days ago (laughs). They also offer mini sizes, so I opted for the mini. Today was once again a delightful meal.
The highest quality ever! Pudding Kakigori
The unforgettable pudding ice that has burned into my memory (*≧ω≦*)! Three weeks felt so long! Finally, we meet again! I noticed that last time it didn’t have any dried raisins for some reason (laughs). It’s not a big deal, but (laughs) it comes sprinkled with raisins, almonds, and granola. Tasting it again, it’s quite refreshing! Those with a sweet tooth might find it a bit light, as I overheard some saying it was too thin. But I personally enjoyed this level of sweetness! (*´▽`*) This day was right in the middle of lunchtime, but due to the bad weather, it turned out to be a lucky day with few customers! There’s a new creation, black sesame ice, which also piques my interest ( ´艸`). It seems the pudding ice is popular and will be around for a while longer, which makes me happy! ☆ It was a great meal.
New Creation! Matcha and Kinako Mochi Kakigori
I had heard about the special attention given to the matcha and hojicha syrup, and now a new and improved matcha ice has appeared! The moment I saw the announcement for the "Matcha Kinako Mochi," I was overjoyed and couldn't help but jump with excitement! Combining it with my favorite milk syrup made for an incredibly indulgent pairing with the melt-in-your-mouth mochi and kinako... it’s an extraordinary blend! I decided to skip the pudding this time and came just for this. It was a gloomy weekday, so the place was quiet, and I was seated right away. The setup was simple, featuring just the toppings I mentioned above, with nothing inside. The overall sweetness was mild, giving it a sophisticated adult flavor—nothing short of exquisite. I initially thought this was a limited-time offering, but it seems it has nearly become a regular item, as it has made its way onto the updated menu. I'm so glad to have spent another blissful moment today. Thank you for the wonderful meal!
The highest quality ever! Pudding Kakigori
I heard that the discontinued pudding kakigori (shaved ice) has returned for the anniversary festival, so I went right away! They added a new matcha kinako mochi to the classic menu, and I’m not sure if the mango series is a staple, but it has now joined as a regular offering. When I arrived, there were a few customers enjoying kakigori and lunch, so I had to wait about 20 minutes. The pudding kakigori has been renewed, featuring a larger portion and even more beautiful presentation! That day, there was a version without raisins, possibly due to stock issues. Here’s what it includes: ◆Mint leaves ◆American cherries ◆Unsweetened whipped cream ◆Dried raisins, almonds, and granola ◆Anglaise sauce ◆Caramel sauce ◆Homemade pudding This is absolutely delicious—it’s beyond just tasty. It’s amazing, in a really good way! I was so impressed that I wanted to freeze time. The emphasis is more on the custard than the caramel, which hits the sweet spot for me! It’s already so incredible that I can’t get enough... the last bite of pudding knocked me out\( ゚▽゚ )/This is undoubtedly the best kakigori I’ve had at Tokubee, or even the best I’ve ever eaten! It surpassed kinako milk and matcha, and even outshone the kakigori from Nara. I highly, highly recommend it! I hope pudding lovers in Mie can try this! I want to eat the pudding kakigori again next time, and I can’t wait to try the matcha kinako mochi as well! Thank you for the amazing meal.

I heard they were planning to release new items in May, so I visited for the first time since March. As of May, they now offer two flavors: Mango Milk and Mango Almond Jelly, along with a new Kinako Milk Matcha Shaved Ice available from the 13th. For my first bowl, I chose the Mango Milk. It consists simply of mango chunks, mango sauce, and milk syrup. The mango itself is sweet, resulting in a surprisingly rich and sweet treat! They kept it simple for that reason. The shaved ice was fluffy and delicious! For my second bowl, I went with Strawberry Chocolate. This has been a staple on the menu since they started offering shaved ice. You might wonder why I waited so long—it's because I'm not a fan of chocolate and had never tried it before. However, after enjoying the chocolate syrup during the Valentine's Day special, I was eager to give it a shot. I was determined to try it this time, no matter the temptation! The bowl features half chocolate and half strawberry, but interestingly, the layers alternate with chocolate beneath strawberry and vice versa. Additionally, a hint of salt is sprinkled on top, which they recently started doing. Apparently, it makes a significant difference in flavor (though I can't confirm since I haven't done a side-by-side comparison). Tokubee is all about unique flavors, carefully selected ingredients, and innovative combinations, constantly evolving! There's no doubt this place will be a hit again this summer! Thank you for the delicious meal!

Last year, I tried dozens of kakigori (shaved ice), but I actually dislike sakura (cherry blossom) sweets and had never eaten sakura kakigori before. (I also missed opportunities due to the COVID-19 emergency declaration.) However, after hearing about the staff's dedication, I became interested in trying Tokubee's sakura kakigori. I ordered two flavors: strawberry milk and sakura. Here’s what it included: ◆ Salted sakura petals ◆ Three-color dango ◆ Sakura whipped cream ◆ Sakura milk syrup ◆ Powdered sakura leaves ◆ Sakura chips ◆ Ice cream with sakura mochi ◆ Strawberries ◆ Strawberry milk syrup The kakigori has two layers: sakura on top and strawberry on the bottom. The top layer is light and occasionally has a nice salty accent. The middle layer is smooth with milk syrup. The ice cream is not just sakura-flavored; it contains sakura mochi, which is innovative and delicious! The texture is chewy and delightful. The latter half features strawberry milk syrup, which is strong in strawberry flavor with a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. The sakura flavor is gentle, making it suitable even for beginners or those who usually dislike it. It’s delicious! This experience helped me overcome my dislike for sakura. The quality has been improving day by day, and they offer a variety of enjoyable menu items. If you haven't visited since the start of the kakigori season, I highly recommend trying the evolved version of Tokubee's kakigori! Oh, and don’t forget to try the pudding too! Thank you for the meal!
Highly recommended: Exquisite Firm Homemade Pudding!
Even though there are many places I want to visit, my craving for kakigori at Tokubee wins every time! (*≧∀≦*) Even in February, they still had the pumpkin flavor available, so I got to enjoy that delicious pumpkin again. It seems the pumpkin recipe has been slightly refreshed for an even better taste. I thought the syrup was just regular black syrup, but it actually has a mix of kuromitsu and hojicha! Now that I think about it, it’s definitely less sweet than the black syrup and kinako combination. They use Japanese chestnut pumpkins, focusing not only on presentation but also on high-quality ingredients. The homemade pudding is becoming quite popular already! I ordered it again without whipped cream this time, but I heard they can make it with less caramel, so I might try that next time. Highly recommended for fans of firm pudding! (*^.^*) Starting in March, they have sakura kakigori! It's the most luxurious option yet, and there's a good reason for that. The composition is quite rich and reflects the staff's attention to detail! By the way, I used to order and pay at the register first, and they had the menu for all the kakigori types posted at the counter. Now that you order at your seat, it’s inconvenient because they only have the initial standard menu available. It would be really helpful if they could put that menu at the table as well. I usually go on weekdays, and there are often many cars parked outside, but surprisingly it’s quite calm on weekend afternoons, and the parking lot was surprisingly empty. Since it was almost last order time and everyone was in a relaxed mood, I ended up chatting with one of the staff members! Thank you for the enjoyable conversation! It was a great meal.
Homemade Pudding Now Available!
Tokubee has started serving homemade pudding!\(^o^)/ With cherries and whipped cream on top, this Italian-style pudding cut into triangles is simply beautiful to look at! I had already decided to try the almond snow cone from my last visit that I hadn't tasted yet. First, let's start with the pudding... I asked them to make it without whipped cream. The texture, sweetness, caramel, and size—everything was perfect! (*°▽°*) It hit all my preferences! This size is similar to the ones from Ise's Silk Road and only costs JPY 270!? Wait, what?! I'm shocked it’s currently around JPY 500 elsewhere, I did a double-take (laughs). [As of May, it has increased to JPY 300] I want to eat it dozens of times! I want to have it again tomorrow! Honestly, I’m tempted to move closer (it takes about an hour and a half from my home). I highly recommend it! As for the snow cone, my excitement meant the almond flavor alone wasn’t enough, so I also tried the limited-time Valentine’s snow cone! The standard almond flavor is quite simple, made with milk syrup and almond tofu. A mini size is also available. Milk syrup snow cones are definitely my favorite (●^o^●)! Simple yet incredibly delicious! Then came my second bowl, the Valentine’s snow cone. Here’s what it consists of: ◆ Cookies ◆ Unsweetened whipped cream ◆ Chocolate sauce ◆ Milk chocolate syrup ◆ Soy milk banana syrup ◆ Banana ◆ Sponge cake I requested it to be made without the chocolate sauce. The overall sweetness was just perfect! ☆ I usually don’t eat chocolate in parfaits, so snow cones were a first for me too. The result was amazing, overturning my previous avoidance—so delicious! (*°▽°*) Great job, chocolate snow cone! I want to attempt it this year! It was an exceptionally happy café time. It was a great meal!
The bill changed after the meal!
On this day, the Valentine’s shaved ice was just starting, but since I’m not a fan of chocolate sauce, I decided to go for the Tiramisu Shaved Ice, as I rarely get to enjoy the classic menu otherwise. Given how often I visit, it seems they recognized that I came specifically for the shaved ice, even during lunch hours (laughs). Unusually, they asked me, "Is this a new creation?" (^^) However, it turned out to be the regular version today, my apologies (laughs). As it’s a classic, let me summarize the components: on top, there are mint leaves and unsweetened whipped cream sprinkled with black coffee powder. Below that, I believe there was milk syrup and a clear syrup. Inside, there was mascarpone cheese. Embarrassingly, I mistakenly thought the Tiramisu Shaved Ice was chocolate-flavored… so I was surprised to find it had coffee, which I don’t like (^^;). However, with the milk and mascarpone, it was still quite enjoyable. I did wonder if I should have tried the new creation instead, but I ended up appreciating this one as well (* ̄ー ̄). By the way, the pudding and sake lees yogurt have officially joined the regular menu. They must have been popular! ☆ I still haven’t tried the hojicha, strawberry chocolate, and almond flavors, but I’m particularly curious about the almond one, so I hope to try it at some point. This was my 10th visit, and I was surprised at how often I’ve come in such a short time (laughs). Thank you for the meal!
2021 New Year's Kakigori
I visited Tokubee right after the New Year to try their New Year’s shaved ice! Here’s what I had: ◆ Crushed cheese and chocolate pie ◆ Sake kasu syrup ◆ Strawberry milk syrup ◆ Shingen mochi ◆ Sake kasu cocoa It felt like a special version of the sake kasu yogurt that debuted in September! The syrups were refreshing and not overly sweet, making it enjoyable until the last bite. The strawberries served as a nice palate cleanser, and with strawberry syrup inside, it kept things interesting with every bite. The melt-in-your-mouth mochi, unique to the kuromitsu kinako ice, was a delightful surprise! It felt like a New Year’s gift from Tokubee, and I was completely satisfied! Additionally, I heard that you can now order takeout bento boxes starting from just one item. You can also order just the side dishes, but reservations are required by the day before. Everything was delicious, especially the fried chicken and the dashimaki tamago, which were to my taste! By the way, they used to have a system where you paid first and then took your seat, but this year they switched to a post-payment system. I think it’s more convenient for adding extra shaved ice later, so I’m glad about the change. Thank you for today! It was a wonderful meal.
White X'mas Kakigori
I heard that the limited-time Christmas shaved ice has started, so I rushed to visit! This time, it was my first time attending during the evening hours. Yes, they serve shaved ice at night too! Due to the shop's policy of "keeping the details a surprise until you try it," I won't write specifics about the Christmas ice this time. However, at JPY 1000, it offered a very satisfying experience and felt like a great deal compared to other shaved ice I've had! This must be a Christmas gift from Tokubee! In the past, the shaved ice was fairly sweet, but this time the sweetness and acidity were very well balanced, making it delicious! I personally prefer this level of sweetness. There are usually other customers present, but on this day, I arrived right at 5 PM and, surprisingly, no one else was there, which was lucky! It was great to enjoy my meal in a quiet Japanese-style room. Plus, it was warmed up by the air conditioning, and recently, they’ve been serving tea without me having to ask! Thank you very much. It was a great meal!

After my recent visit, I returned quickly because they released a new matcha syrup kakigori. They have a break until the end of March, so please note that they close at 14:00 and reopen at 17:00 in the evening. The kakigori consists of the following ingredients: ◆ Chocolate Crunch ◆ Unsweetened Whipped Cream ◆ Matcha Syrup ◆ Persimmon Syrup ◆ Tea Jelly ◆ Vanilla Ice Cream (Yukimi Daifuku) It seems they also started adding matcha powder after the first day. The persimmon syrup has a gel-like consistency. The overall flavor was refreshing (*^^*) Wait, is that ice cream really vanilla? I felt a bit strange until I learned from Average-san’s info that it’s Yukimi Daifuku (laughs). That day was unseasonably hot, so I enjoyed a cold water to quench my thirst. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal.

I've been coming to this area often lately with the surge of new shops like Sarubanana, Cafe Nappe, and Cotton Melon. And I always find myself wanting to stop by Tokubee! It's appealing because it's open almost every day except Wednesday, making it easy to drop in casually. However, it used to have continuous service, but now they have a break from 2 PM to 5 PM. I've come so often and tried almost everything (laughs), so this time I requested my favorite black honey kinako with extra kinako and less black honey. The staff kindly brought me additional black honey in a separate container just in case (^^). They even served me tea with it (laughs). I wonder if they looked me up on Tabelog? (laughs). The kinako could have been fluffier, but I understand that's not possible (≧▽≦). The black honey was just right! Topping it with whipped cream might make it even more delicious! It was a great meal!

To wrap up the day, I enjoyed some kakigori (shaved ice) at Tokubee. I tried their new sakekasu yogurt flavor that started in September. Here are the ingredients: ◆ Sakekasu Yogurt Syrup ◆ Blueberry Syrup ◆ Sweet Red Bean Paste ◆ Yogurt Sorbet ◆ Rum Raisin I've had many kakigori before, and while they were good, I always thought they were quite ordinary. But this one had impressive quality and was delicious! I really appreciated the thought that went into it! (*^^*) Starting in October, they will launch a new autumn Mont Blanc flavor. At the same time, they will also start serving zoni (Japanese rice soup) and zenzai (sweet red bean soup) as well! It's nice to have something to look forward to every month. Rather than just an izakaya, it feels more like a cafe! (laughs) Today was another delicious experience, thank you!

While driving along Chuo Road, I suddenly craved Tokubee's strawberry milk shaved ice, so I made a spontaneous visit. Since it was a weekday lunchtime, I hoped it would be quiet, and just as expected, there were only two other groups ahead of me, creating a relaxed atmosphere. As I was leaving, a new group arrived! Everyone who comes here seems to be smiling, and you can feel the happy vibe in the air. Even in the private rooms, you can hear excited exclamations like "Wow, this is amazing!" and "So delicious!" when the shaved ice arrives, which adds to the joyful experience. The menu photo shows the regular size, but I ordered the mini size of the strawberry milk with whipped cream topping, which looks just like the picture. It's also more affordable, and the mini size is more than enough, so I highly recommend it! They seem to have gotten the hang of making it, as it arrives quickly if there are no other orders ahead of mine. The flavor is pure strawberry sauce, and it was consistently delicious. I checked to see if they would continue serving shaved ice from October, and they confirmed that they will indeed offer it year-round, with new flavors coming out in the fall. I'm looking forward to it! Even though this is an izakaya, it seems I'll be coming here for the shaved ice from now on. Thank you for the meal!

After enjoying some takoyaki at Tako Tora, I had been looking forward to having a kakigori at Yellow Tail. However, upon arriving during lunchtime, the parking lot was completely full! I checked the waitlist and it looked like it would be at least a two-hour wait... I decided that was unfeasible and headed to my next destination, Tokubee. However, it seemed to be gaining popularity as well, which was concerning. To my surprise, there was only one group ahead of me when I arrived, and they were already dining comfortably, so the staff seemed quite relaxed. For my first bowl, I had the milk kakigori, which was filled with kiwi, banana, and pineapple. It was incredibly delicious—possibly my favorite! The second bowl was a pudding kakigori. It was topped with dry raisins and granola, and there was actual pudding inside! Not the store-bought kind, but a rich, delicious, firm pudding that you would typically find in a café. I could eat just that on its own! The syrup did indeed taste like pudding, but unfortunately, it was about half melted by the time I got to it. I hurried to finish it off, but I ended up tilting the bowl for a big gulp at the end! It seems that kakigori is offered year-round, and I really hope they continue this tradition. They operate with no days off during the summer and serve kakigori until 11 PM, which is very convenient. It was a great meal!

I finally visited the renowned Tokubee to try their famous shaved ice! It was a weekday afternoon and there were already several women who seemed to be fans of shaved ice. I could see them preparing the ice in the kitchen, so I waited in front of the register while browsing the menu. The system was to order and pay at the register first, then put my shoes in the locker and take a seat of my choice. Since I decided to have two servings, I thought it would be smoother to just order and pay for both right away. For my first serving, I had the matcha flavor, made with premium matcha from Kyoto and it didn’t come with condensed milk. The mini size was just enough! It was delicious, but the flavor became a bit monotonous towards the end. For my second serving, I chose the black sugar and kinako (roasted soybean flour) flavor, which was only available in regular size. It was slightly more than the mini size I had before. The chewy mochi in it was delightful! However, I found myself getting a little tired of it towards the end too (laughs). This one is for black sugar lovers, as it has a stronger black sugar flavor compared to the kinako. The texture of the ice was just right, maintaining a light crunch while being fluffy and easy to eat! Overall, I thought it was just average. I was disappointed that there were no complimentary cold water or tea, but the private room with sliding doors was incredibly comfortable (*≧∀≦*), making it easy to eat in peace! The service left a good impression as well (*^_^*). Since there are still other flavors I want to try, I’ll definitely be visiting again. It was a great meal!

My partner wanted to try the curry kakigori at Tokubee, so we headed there after our yakiniku meal. I ordered the strawberry chocolate kakigori and a new pasta dish. The pasta was thick and chewy, with a unique flavor from the cream sauce and oil! I think I might prefer it without the oil. The strawberry chocolate kakigori was topped with pink rock salt, which paired perfectly with the chocolate and was delicious (*^O^*). The curry kakigori has had slight variations a few times, and this time it came with whipped cream. I didn’t ask for details, but I’m glad to hear it was tasty! Thank you for the meal!
