Authentic Indian Curry Made by a Native Chef
Our menu features curries made with spices imported directly from the region, crafted with care by our Nepalese chef. We aim to recreate authentic flavors while adjusting the spice blend to suit Japan |
Today, I visited "Shangri-La" located in Shonan, Tome City. I've heard from others about this place being a great curry spot, and I had it on my list of places to try for a while. Although I hadn't made it there before, I finally found the opportunity to visit during lunch time. Upon arrival, I found it as I had researched, situated within a pachinko parlor's property. (Curiously, curry shops seem to be quite connected with pachinko parlors; I know of at least three others in the same location.) The building does resemble a pachinko parlor's café, but as I got closer, it definitely emanated the vibe of a curry shop. I noticed a sign outside indicating "Take Away ¥550," which got me thinking about ordering takeout. 😊 As I entered, a cheerful and lively female voice greeted me: "Welcome! Please take a seat at a table!" Wow, what an uplifting greeting—it immediately made me feel like this was a good place. The interior had some hints of Indian decor, but it was actually quite tidy and refreshing. The small space had an appropriate ambiance with low, pleasant background music. Now, on to ordering! When I visit a new curry place, I usually stick to the classic choice of "Chicken Curry" for my first try. After browsing the menu, I decided to go with the "Chicken Curry Set". The friendly staff included a woman from Japan and two gentlemen in the kitchen who appeared to be from Nepal, adding to my expectations for the flavors. ◆ Chicken Curry Set: JPY 600 What arrived was a generous set including chicken curry, salad, a mysterious carrot dish, and a giant naan. 😊 The chicken curry allowed me to choose the spice level from six options, so I went for level 4, which was just the right amount of heat for me. Additionally, there was a spicy seasoning labeled "Extra Spicy" on the table, which meant I could always start milder and add heat later if I wanted. Now for the taste! In short, it was incredibly delicious curry. It was spicy, with a perfect thickness and a pleasantly complex flavor. However, I did feel that the amount of chicken was a bit on the smaller side. Given the price, I can't complain too much, but compared to another curry shop I recently visited in Sendai, this one had slightly less filling. Nonetheless, the flavor was undeniable—this was some tasty curry! 😊 As for the naan, it was enormous and wonderfully chewy. It had such a tough texture that tearing it by hand was a bit of a challenge. The sweetness was subdued, making it exactly to my liking. This place offers a wide variety of delicious curries and a well-rounded selection of side dishes. It's ideal for sharing a meal with family or friends in a lively atmosphere. The ambiance was great, and the value was impressive as well. The excellent service left a strong impression on me. I definitely want to come back! I had a truly enjoyable meal today—thank you for the delicious experience!
