I took the Rapid Airport train from New Chitose Airport to Sapporo Station. Feeling a bit hungry, I thought I'd have some standing soba when I arrived in Sapporo. Come to think of it, when I visited Sapporo on previous trips, my mind was filled with ramen, jingisukan, and soup curry, and I never once thought about having standing soba. When I lived in Tokyo, standing soba shops were everywhere, and they were a normal part of everyday life. Since moving to Sapporo, I’ve come to really appreciate the value of standing soba shops. The Rapid Airport arrived at track 5 at Sapporo Station shortly after 4 PM. Excited to eat some soba, I headed towards the shop, only to find that it had already closed, and the staff were starting to clean up. Wait, what? I never expected it to close this early! I felt like I had hit rock bottom, but then I noticed that the shop on the adjacent platform was still open, with some customers inside enjoying their soba. I dashed over to platforms 7 and 8, bought a ticket, and ordered the tempura soba. I would love to say that having warm soba in subzero temperatures was an exquisite experience, but compared to the standing soba in Tokyo, it wasn't that impressive. According to the homepage of Sapporo Station's Tachiwai Shokai, the business hours for platforms 5 and 6 are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, while for platforms 7 and 8, they are from 6:45 AM to 7:00 PM. Why is there such a difference in business hours between the platforms? ▼ Map for Station Bento 'Bensaitei' https://www.ekiben-sapporo.net/-/img/corporate/store-map.jpg Tempura Soba JPY 540
