Located in Sukagawa City, Fukushima Prefecture, this weekend-only restaurant serves hand-made soba and stone-oven pizza. After enjoying the blooming wisteria at a nearby 'Yoshimine Fuji Garden,' I visited for lunch for the first time. The restaurant, a converted home, requires you to remove your shoes at the entrance and climb up a steep staircase to the second floor where the seating is. I was led to a tatami seating area and ordered: ● My companion: 'Zaru Soba, Large Size' JPY 650 ● Me: 'Zaru Soba' JPY 550 The ni-hachi soba served in a bamboo dish had a mild aroma and flavor, slightly grainy, and resembled rustic soba with various lengths and widths. The rich, flavorful katsuobushi dipping sauce was on the spicier side, and the soba-yu (soba water) was a thicker type. ● 'Seasonal Pizza' JPY 900 The toppings included broccoli, edamame, and bacon. The thin crust was somewhere between Roman and Neapolitan pizza in texture, and while the crust was delicious, the white sauce was way too salty! (ˉ ﹏ ˉ ; ) A single bite had me and my companion exchanging concerned glances (laughs). The saltiness from the cheese and bacon only added to our displeasure, making it an unappealing flavor for us. This restaurant, started as a hobby after retirement, is run by a couple who love to serve food. It’s a popular spot that ran out of soba by 1:30 PM. Let’s keep supporting small businesses like this during tough times! ⁽⁽◝( •▽• )◜⁾⁾
