For 10 years, Yakiniku Tashiro in Onojo has been a beloved local spot to indulge in premium charcoal-grilled yakiniku. There is also a branch in Kasuga, but I've been particularly curious about the Onojo location since I often pass by it, and I finally got the chance to visit! I called ahead and was informed that there are two parking spaces available in the neighboring lot, so I parked there and headed to the restaurant. If you make a reservation by 8 PM, all meat items are half-price, and they seem to use Saga beef. It's also great that they accept PayPay for payments. Upon entering, I found three low tables on each side, with a total of 24 seats. Each table was equipped with sauces, white sauce, lemon, rock salt, black pepper, spicy miso, and garlic. They use a shichirin grill, but there's no duct above, just a ventilation fan on the wall, so be mindful of your clothing when you visit due to the smoke. I immediately checked the menu. As stated, the meats are half-price, and the regular prices are written next to the half-price amounts in red. Overall, the prices seem quite reasonable, but I needed to taste the food first. After placing a hefty order, the first dish served was homemade kimchi for JPY 380. It was very spicy, and when paired with the grilled meat, it was absolutely delicious. Next came three pieces of beef toro sushi for JPY 890 + one additional piece for JPY 300. It was incredibly melt-in-your-mouth tender! I was amazed at how the beef just dissolved in my mouth. Then, I tried the sea urchin and salmon roe topped beef toro rice bowl for JPY 1780. This was extravagantly delicious, with uni, ikura, and an egg yolk, perfectly combined with the dipping sauce and nori. The daily special, shown on the wall, was a medium slice of beef for JPY 780, now JPY 580. It was tasty but a bit ordinary; however, given the low price, I was quite satisfied. I ordered the Tashiro kalbi for JPY 680 × 2. Since it bears the restaurant's name, I expected it to be both cheap and good. The meat was hearty yet tender, leaning towards the lean side but still a good amount of marbling, which I prefer. This was delicious and affordable! The staff also recommended the short rib for around JPY 1180 (price a little fuzzy in my memory). It was shockingly good for the price, with exceptional meat quality! It was incredibly delicious. The outside skirt for JPY 980 with wasabi soy sauce was recommended, and it worked perfectly! The meat was tender yet had a good bite to it. Also, I had a large bowl of white rice for JPY 350. The combination of grilled meat, sauce, and rice is simply the best! I tried the large intestines for JPY 680, which were incredibly plump and had a light, flavorful fat that paired perfectly with rice. The superior kalbi for JPY 980 had an amazing meat quality for the price! It was definitely worth coming here just for that. I was so impressed with the large intestines that I ordered more. They were excessively delicious, so I had another serving with my large bowl of rice, kimchi, and black oolong tea. The upper loin for JPY 980 had a great marbling and a light fat that was remarkable! The flavor of the kalbi stands out for the meat, while the loin emphasizes the deliciousness of the fat. The upper outside skirt for JPY 1180 was also served with wasabi soy sauce, and the quality was significantly higher than the regular outside skirt, being incredibly delicious! I had to order more kimchi, and added more upper loin, as it seemed ideal to enjoy the combination of upper loin, upper kalbi, upper outside skirt, large intestines, rice, and kimchi. I kept ordering more upper kalbi and had a feast, ending up extremely satisfied! I was particularly impressed by the quality of the meat and the great value. It's no wonder I want to come here regularly. The meat sushi was, of course, extremely delicious, but the upper kalbi, upper loin, and upper outside skirt simply stole the show!
