Enjoyed the famous "Ebina Melon Bread" at Royal Host inside Kyushu University Hospital! | Ichiro Tomori's "Casual Photo Diary"
The other day, I took my daughter, who is in the second year of junior high school, to Kyushu University Hospital for a check-up. After the examination, the doctor instructed us to go for a blood test, but we were told there would be a 50-minute wait in the procedure room... a common occurrence in large hospitals. So, to pass the time, we decided to grab some refreshments at "Royal Host" located within the hospital. This branch is a franchise operated by a corporation called "Keiai Dan," which also runs cafeterias and shops in the hospital, so they offer a unique menu not found in other Royal Host locations. When we arrived at the entrance, we saw a poster that said, "Ebina Melon Bread has come to Kyushu University Hospital." The "Ebina Melon Bread" is a specialty sold at the "Porto Gal" bakery located in the Ebina Service Area on the Tomei Expressway (downbound). It seems that "Porto Gal" is operated by a subsidiary of Royal Host, which is how they have obtained this product. My daughter loves melon bread, so she immediately wanted to try it! (laughs) We entered the restaurant, took a seat, and looked over the morning menu while pondering our choices. In the end, we decided to share one "Ebina Melon Bread" (JPY 356, tax included) and I ordered an iced coffee (drinks set price JPY 286, tax included) for myself, while my daughter also wanted her favorite Onion Gratin Soup (JPY 550, tax included)... but I couldn't say no. (laughs) After a short wait, our orders started arriving one after another. The "Ebina Melon Bread" is quite large. When I took a bite of the crispy exterior, I found the inside to be green like a melon, with the fragrant aroma of melon juice wafting out—just as the rumors had suggested. Since we were sharing, I can only imagine how satisfying it would be to eat a whole one by yourself. I also tried a bit of my daughter's Onion Gratin Soup. It was steaming hot with a stable umami flavor; it remains a reliable choice that I can always enjoy. During the wait at the hospital, we had a little café time. It’s quite nice to have such an elegant moment in a corner of a hospital. I don't think there will be many chances to visit again, but I really want to try their original menu on our next visit.

Recently, I took my daughter, who is in the second year of junior high (moving to third year in April), to Kyushu University Hospital for her check-up. After various tests and procedures, it was almost lunchtime, so my younger daughter, who is in the fifth grade (moving to sixth in April), and I decided to have lunch at the following restaurant: Royal Host, Kyushu University Hospital branch. I had visited this location before during a previous visit. Since it was close to lunchtime, the restaurant was quite busy. My daughters each chose a hamburger dish. My second-year daughter ordered the Black x Black Hamburger with Brown Butter Sauce, along with an Onion Gratin Soup and Rice Set (JPY 2497, tax included), while my fifth-grade daughter opted for the Hamburger & Natural Shrimp Fry and Red Snow Crab Cream Croquette with Soup and Rice Set (JPY 2772, tax included). As for me, I wanted to try something special from the hospital's unique menu, so I ordered the Japanese Pork Katsu Curry from the "Kyushu University Hospital Special Menu" (JPY 1518, tax included) and added an Iced Coffee to my drink set (JPY 440, tax included). After a short wait, our orders started to arrive one by one. The Japanese Pork Katsu Curry I ordered featured a crispy katsu on top, with tender pork that could be cut with a spoon, and a rich flavor. The curry sauce was packed with the essence of the ingredients, making it a perfect match for the rice. Royal Host truly delivers a sense of reassurance. My daughters also enjoyed their hamburgers, which were hearty and juicy. I had a taste, and I could see why the hamburgers are consistently good. Originally, we had planned to finish at the hospital earlier and go out to eat, but I was glad we could enjoy a delicious lunch at Royal Host inside the hospital this time. The prices are a bit higher, but I believe the quality justifies it, and most importantly, it provides peace of mind. If there’s another opportunity during my daughter's future visits, I might come back again.
