A summer gathering with a business partner. This was the restaurant they suggested. It had been a while since I took the Shin-Keisei Line. I wondered how many years it had been. I've passed through this area by car, but the traffic is so bad that I rarely come here privately. I had never seen the Kamagaya Great Buddha, so since I arrived a bit early, I heard it was near the station and decided to walk over. It took about three minutes from the station. To my surprise, the Great Buddha was much smaller than I expected. It was quite different from my image, located at the entrance of a cemetery, which caught me off guard. I learned later that it’s privately owned, which was even more surprising. The restaurant was located on a back street before reaching the Kamagaya Great Buddha. For some reason, there are unusually many karaoke snack bars around here. There are nearly six of them side by side. I couldn't help but wonder about the demand! Anyway, we entered the restaurant at our reservation time. There were already customers seated. We quickly ordered draft beers and made a toast. On a scorching day close to 35°C, it tasted great! The first dish that came out was grilled liver. I may have never seen such a large piece of liver before. It felt like they gave us plenty. The sauce was subtly sweet, which was perfect. Then came the assorted pickles, glass noodle salad, and mozuku seaweed with vinegar. These were served promptly as pre-ordered dishes. The glass noodle salad reminded me of what I had at Kawamatsu, a grilled eel restaurant I visited in Koga. I wondered if it was a standard appetizer at eel restaurants! Next came the yakitori. Again, it was quite large. Each skewer had a portion close to a half thigh of chicken. I ordered two of these. Wow, just this was enough to fill me up! I also ordered yam sticks, itawasa, sea urchin with squid, and shishamo, but ended up feeling really stuffed. I drank Akakirushima with hot water, and it definitely had an impact! I also had some sake, but it was too sweet and not well-suited for pairing with food. I thought I’d rather stick with shochu. As a result, I couldn't finish the eel, so I ended up taking it home. The next day, I reheated it and shared it with my family of three, but it was just a little under enough for all of us. Maybe it would have been too much for one person. The eel was fluffy and tender, and the subtly sweet sauce was delicious. If I didn't need such a large portion, a rice bowl would have been enough. This is an established eel restaurant in Kamagaya. The fact that it was fully booked by reservations left an impression. I think I will visit again when the opportunity arises.
