On a weekday evening at 8 PM. I came to Sakata in Yamagata for work after a long time, so I went out with a colleague to try an izakaya by taking a taxi. The restaurant was highly recommended by the hotel concierge. Since there were two of us, we sat at the counter near the entrance. At the back of the counter were an elderly couple, and a group was having a lively banquet in the back room. Later, a local gentleman sat next to us and shared information about the local culture and specialties. Although we ordered several dishes, I only took pictures of the first sake and sashimi. The amberjack was decent, but the sliced arrowhead fish with its liver was absolutely delicious. We also ordered fried oysters and grilled dishes among many other things, all of which were very tasty, but unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures of them. I didn’t capture the menu either; once we started drinking and talking, time just flew by.
