I visited Unagi Akebono while staying at Yuou Onsen in Minami-Kofu, and the restaurant was right in front of my room's window. At first glance, it seemed to be in a residential area, and during a weekday around 6 PM, there were two groups ahead of me and one person arriving later, along with reserved seats and takeout customers. It’s quite a bustling eel restaurant. For a beer snack, I tried the eel bone crackers, which I expected to be salty but were actually sweetened with sauce. I ordered the Unaju (eel rice bowl) for JPY 3,500, and opted for the liver soup for an additional JPY 100. The portion was 1.5 pieces of eel, prepared in the Kansai style without steaming. It had a crispy and fragrant texture rather than being fluffy. The rice portion was modest, with a large size available for an extra JPY 100. It came with pickled vegetables, salad, and an orange. After some research, I found out that this restaurant has been operating in Minami-Kofu for 40 years. It was a cozy little place.
