In January 2020, from 12:05 to 12:45 I visited a small dining place on the street popularly known as "Medical University Avenue Shopping Street" in front of Okayama University Hospital. The interior isn't very spacious, with four counter seats, four teppan-yaki seats, one two-person table, and tatami seating, but it was bustling with what seemed to be regular customers. There were two women managing the kitchen, and I imagined that one of them might be "Shizu." While there were various menu options available, I opted for the daily set meal for JPY 770. This day’s daily set included Nabe-yaki Udon, rice balls with pickles, a mandarin orange, and coffee. It seemed like many customers also ordered the set, as three stoves were lined up in the kitchen, each bubbling away with clay pots on top. After a short wait, my daily set meal was served. It was piping hot with steam rising from it. Inside the clay pot were tempura of shungiku (garland chrysanthemum), chicken, napa cabbage, imitation crab, and shiitake mushrooms. The rice ball was quite large, comparable to a mountain-sized rice ball, and I appreciated the side of pickles. After enjoying the dessert of mandarin orange, I savored a cup of hot coffee. It was a great meal.
