The Independent reported that 22 people were in the building at the time of the collapse, which occurred at around 3 a.m. local time on Saturday, April 19. The outlet noted that CCTV footage from a nearby building captured the incident, which led to a thick cloud of dust over the area. According to local news outlet NDTV, rescue teams and local volunteers worked through the night, using cranes and thermal cameras to help those trapped under the rubble. “I've come from the hospital,” a man who said he lost two nephews in the accident told the outlet. “The building was eight to 10 years old. Pillar work was underway. The whole foundation gave way. Two school-going boys are gone. We kept saying it was shaking after the [recent] rain. But nobody came,” another local said. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi additionally told the outlet that the four-story building did not adhere to required load-bearing safety protocols. "Other buildings in the area may have structural issues. We will survey other buildings in the area," they added. The building was not visible. Then someone called me and said the building had collapsed,” the man — who said he had relatives in the building — told The Indian Express.
