Following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race this afternoon, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing) has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him at the top of the Democratic ticket.

“The Congresswoman supports President Biden’s endorsement of Vice President, Kamala Harris as the nominee for President,” a Watson Coleman spokesperson told the New Jersey Globe. “She looks forward to working exceptionally hard to ensure a victory against the biggest threat to our democracy, Donald Trump.”

Watson Coleman is the second New Jersey member of Congress to come out publicly in support of Harris, after Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown), who is the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate this year. Biden himself has endorsed Harris as well, giving her a massive leg up in the still-unclear process to choose his replacement.

Watson Coleman also commended Biden’s decision to stand down as the presidential nominee.

“President Biden’s decision to step aside is a selfless act of patriotism, putting the need to defend democracy ahead of his own personal ambition,” she said earlier today. “It’s a stunning act of selflessness that is so often lacking in today’s politics. Thank you for everything you have done for our country, President Biden.”
