Biography

Assembly Member  Tommy John Schiavoni

Assembly Member Tommy John Schiavoni serves the 1st New York State Assembly District, which includes the towns of Southold, Shelter Island, East Hampton, Southampton and part of Brookhaven. He was elected to the NYS Assembly in November of 2024.

For three generations, Tommy John's family operated a local plumbing and heating business in Sag Harbor, where he began working at the age of twelve. Growing up on construction sites with master tradesmen, Tommy John gained the knowledge and experience that fuels his desire to find pragmatic solutions to problems to this day.

With a passion for history and government, Tommy John earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education in Social Studies at SUNY Cortland and became a teacher. He worked from 1988 until retirement in 2018 in the Center Moriches School District teaching Participation in Government, Economics and U.S. History and Government. While working full-time, he earned a Master’s Degree from SUNY Stony Brook furthering his career as a High School Social Studies Teacher.

Tommy John has also been an active member of local government since first serving on the North Haven Village Zoning Board of Appeals in 2008. In 2014, he was elected to the North Haven Village Board, and in 2016, he was appointed to the Southampton Town ZBA before his election to the Town Council in 2017. He also served on the Sag Harbor School Board of Education from 2014 to 2017.

Tommy John focuses on practical municipal administration in our communities while maintaining his commitment to a healthy environment, a sound local economy, housing, preserving agriculture, transportation, sustainability initiatives and support of the arts and education in all forms.
