An effort to recall Robert Ficano from his position as Executive of Wayne County, Michigan began in March of 2010.[1] Joyce Ivory, president of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 1659, and Thomas Richards, president of AFSCME Local 101, jointly filed the recall petition. They objected to the fact that Ficano had ordered furlough days to county workers and also contended he was wasting millions on renovating an old, historic building.[2][3] The petition was ultimately rejected and the effort did not go to a vote.[3]
Ficano was up for re-election in November 2010 and was re-elected by voters.[4]

Wayne County election officials were required to approve the wording on the recall petition before it could be circulated.[1]However, the Board of County Election Commissioners rejected the petition, saying the proposed language was too vague to put on the ballot.[3] Subsequent recall efforts were launched in 2011 and 2012, however, none of them were successful.
