Enjoyed this fifth Dracula from the Hammer series. Sets with an eye for detail and a script that allows for bloody gore and lush cleavage. That's how we know Hammer. As far as the level of nudity in this film is concerned, it is clear that with this film we have arrived at the early seventies where the envelope was pushed a little further in that area. The scenes in the whorehouse in particular - wonderful by the way, how Victorian hypocrisy is exposed - make their contribution here.

Compared to its predecessors, I was struck by the dynamic camera work of the team with director Peter Sasdy and cinematographer Arthur Grant (already familiar to me from other Hammer films) in this film. For example, a handheld camera is used in some scenes, which adds a docu-realistic dimension. I think James Bernard's music is truly beautiful and varied in terms of dynamics. It really makes me want to Spotify this man's work sometime.

The actors all do well with Christopher Lee as the central figure. The close-ups of his eyes, at the moment he hypnotizes/attacks his victims, are characteristic of this and other films. Actually, Christopher Lee doesn't have to do much to be impressive. His presence is enough. I also notice that his teeth actually look a bit messy in close-up, except for the canines. It's great that something like this was still acceptable at the time.

Is this film a must see? Only for Hammer fans and vampire lovers I think. It is certainly solid entertainment, but in my opinion not the most atmospheric of the series I have seen so far.

Reasonable film in which three men bring the dead Dracula back to life during a ceremony. In itself the story is a kind of revenge film. Christopher Lee gets very little to do in the title role. Nevertheless, it is all quite easy to look at and it is attractively depicted here and there (especially the gothic church).

A somewhat different Dracula film given the story about three older gentlemen who use Dracula's blood through a servant of Dracula to bring him back to life. Then follows Dracula's revenge because these gentlemen murdered his servant.
Considering the sequel, you do notice some plot holes. The story also loses power given the fact that this is about revenge and it is very strange how Dracula deals with his new helpers who are completely devoted to serving him. At one point he completely puts aside the two female vampires, one is killed and he no longer needs the other. And what happened to Jeremy? The decoration and atmosphere are excellent. The location is also impressive. And Lee is the perfect Dracula! 6/10
