Blood: The Last Vampire plot
The story takes place at the 'Yokota Air Force Base', an American air force base located in Japan. The year is 1966 and the Vietnam War is in full swing. The children staying at the base are busy getting the Halloween party going together with their teachers. But this isn't their only problem, as there are strange creatures wandering around the base! Saya, a mysterious young girl recruited by a secret organization, is undercover on the base with the mission to destroy the creatures.

Still a setback. I know nagging about the duration is seen as unnecessary by many, but if after 41 minutes (I really don't count those credits) I've learned nothing about the characters and only seen some kills that weren't quite as brilliant as I was told, then I think it's a bit thin. The animations are of course very good (although the 3D part did not work everywhere) and in itself it was quite interesting that the film used both English and Japanese, but due to the unelevating script Saya really came across as a grumpy Buffy The Vampire Slayer/Blade clone. If this had been the pilot of a series I would have loved it, as a full movie they can't get rid of it that easily as far as I'm concerned.
Anyway, it doesn't get boring and just looks slick. At times it is a pity that the English cast simply articulates exaggeratedly, with the exception of a few Ghiblis, these voice actors are really better off staying away from anime. I only expected a much bigger gore fest than was delivered here, a lot of blood, but we didn't get to see more than a few cuts. Putting it all together, it could only have been so much more.

Nice review.
Maybe a little scared beforehand, because this was some kind of tech demo. Fortunately, a successful one and one with sufficient artistic qualities to still hold its own as a stand-alone film.
Visually, I still found it impressive. Nice blend of CG and traditional animation, which stands out a bit here and there, but is never disturbing. English voice acting is of a somewhat lower level, the soundtrack could have been a bit better and the ending is not as tight as the rest of the film, but there is still plenty of fun and beautiful things to experience.
Who else does Blood, there are also games, TV series and a live action adaptation, but nothing I've seen could match the level of this film. Metro scene in the beginning remains legendary, despite its age and background still a strong animation.

Beautifully and atmospherically darkly drawn and nice and short; the film is not too long for a second. On the other hand, right at the end (when everything became more colorful , a surprise) it could have continued for a while because of that. It also suddenly took a very interesting direction in terms of content. Great voice work, good pace, but also too short to really stick. 3.5*.
