○About the Shop Founded in 1970, this jazz café features carefully curated jazz music as its background, allowing guests to enjoy coffee and alcohol in a relaxed atmosphere. It was renovated and reopened in 2013, adding to its charming ambiance. ○The Atmosphere Located a 2-minute walk from the Kumano Shrine stop on the city bus, it can be found east of the Higashiyama Marutamachi intersection. It is situated to the northwest of the nearby Heian Shrine. I visited on a weekday around 3:30 PM, and there was only one other customer, creating a very tranquil environment. To the right of the entrance is the counter, with tables arranged further inside. There was also an electronic piano on the left side. The shop is adorned in red, featuring a Western-style decor that is highlighted by floral wallpaper and a red carpet floor. ○Menu As a place primarily focused on the "experience of music," drinks dominate the menu. It also operates as a bar, offering a wide range of alcoholic beverages alongside coffee and tea. There are food options as well, mostly consisting of light snacks and desserts like toast and cakes. ○Wiener Coffee (JPY 750) I was asked in advance whether I wanted sugar added (which I opted for this time). The whipped cream was light and sweet, creating a creamy yet slightly bitter flavor. It had a strong acidity, leaving a lasting aftertaste. I enjoyed savoring the foamy surface while sipping it slowly. With lively jazz music as the background, I was able to unwind and relax. I often visit Okazaki, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover such a place. Next time I come, I hope to enjoy some alcohol paired with the music.
