Delico's Nursery

Delico's Nursery is a vampire/murder mystery/childcare show, which are three genres I never thought I'd see in a single show, and it is absolutely delightful.

One might worry about how they balance the childcare with the murder mystery, but don't worry, so do the characters! The entire show is about our cast of grown men trying (and struggling) to balance catching a serial killer with raising their children, and that being the very focus of the show makes it work well.

It's just so charming watching a group of stuck up, sexy, noble vampires flounder raising children because they were convinced that child-rearing was the work of ... the staff and are now being forced to do it themself.

They're all very flawed men in their parenting, at first, and watching them learn and grow in it makes the show. They are absolutely not good parents, and that is the point. It's always sweet watching people become better by raising children. Sometimes when you raise children, children raise you as well.

And, of course, the reason they're being forced to balance these two very different lines of work is because one of the vampire nobles aims to fulfill his wife's last request of raising their children himself, so he insists he can't catch the murderer with everyone else. When they propose he does both, his response is essentially "fine, just as long as you do the same!" to prove to them how difficult it is, which is hilarious and refreshing.

The murder mystery takes a backseat, but I don't think the show was pretending it wasn't going to. From the promo material I could tell this was a childcare show first and foremost, so I think the murder mystery feels pretty natural as the subplot.

The character design and art is also very pleasing to the eye. The character design are pretty standard "hot but slightly effeminate nobleman for the female gaze" types, although I'm not complaining because those types of designs tend to be very beautiful and put-together. As for the art style, it's rather unique in the way it colors/shades, and I haven't seen a style quite like it in anime before. The colors are kept muted and in shadow, and it adds to the overall darker tone of the show.

While the tone is more lighthearted during some of the childcare moments, it's overall pretty dramatic, which does well to remind the audience that there IS a serial killer on the loose, and that murder mystery also does well at dropping enough clues in each episode to keep the audience intrigued while not taking over the childcare moments, which are clearly more important.

As other reviews have pointed out, the animation can be really rough at times, but in comparison to everything else I find it inconsequential. I can't speak for the Japanese, but the dub cast is also doing extremely well and they contribute very nicely to the show's aesthetic.

I don't think there's really another show like Delico's Nursery out there, because Delico's Nursery is so unique, and that makes it an absolute treat.

I'm not seeing what all the fuss is with the bad reviews. It's a mix between conspiracy mystery and child-rearing, and after watching 5 episodes, it's setting up all of the themes and plotlines in a nice manner. I wouldn't say it's *compelling* quite yet, but the children are adorable and realistic with each of them having their own issues that often come up in real-life parenting as well, and the audience slowly gains more information about the world through the parents dealing with the antagonist group.

The art is nice. It's unique and eye-catching. The animation is about what you would expect for such a ... detailed artstyle, but the few hiccups it has regarding some backgrounds and bg facial expressions is negligible.

If this was airing in the 2000's/early 2010's, people would love it, you all just have impossibly high standards. It's nothing special, but if you're into parenting as a genre, you'll like it.

+ Both the artstyle and backgrounds are pretty unique. When combined with the colours used, the final result is a great fit for the atmosphere and setting of this series.
+ The frequent fights are thoroughly animated and a joy to observe.
+ The premise is incredibly creative, while the setting itself is pretty rare for anime.
+ The cast is notably large and handled really well. All of the relevant characters get a satisfying characterisation and many of them undergo development that feels justified and organic. Given the length of the series and the size of the cast, it is executed very exemplarily.
+ Dali Delico - the ... protagonist - is a really witty, nonchalant and fun character to follow.
+ The children are written in a realistic manner and feel different from each other (apart from the twins being similar).
+ The soundtrack is a banger.

Imo it's too early to dismiss this series. The premise is intriguing and quite different. There's just something entertaining about watching gorgeous aristocrat vampire men attempt to tend to their toddlers in a makeshift nursery. All the while, solving a mass murder mystery.

The art style is very unique and has a mature feel. However, the worst aspect of the show is the animation. The backgrounds are not always clean, and the characters lack detail or even facial features at times.

If you can get over the bad animation, I think this show has some potential. I will revise my review after seeing where the ... story goes.

The art style, character designs, and soundtrack of the show are what makes this show a treat. If you're into artistic elements like these, this is what makes me recommend Delico's Nursery.

- There is a balance between child rearing and dark fantasy, I found that these elements were balanced well compared to other works that try something similar. While some shows introduce children as a gimmick and then entirely focus on the " action " part, Delico's Nursery (DN) included the children in pretty much every episode and I believe they played pretty crucial roles, even if they are simply children.
- The art style is ... lovely! There's so much texture and and I'm in love with how the characters were designed. I've seen shows were the first episode will start with a striking art style to draw an audience in but the quality drops so badly during the later episodes. DN didn't have any of that, they were consistent with using the style they chose and I loved it.
- Quite a decent amount of fight scenes? Sometimes I'll watch shows that are meant to have fight scenes, and then there's this one(1) wonky CG animated scene in it. My expectations are really low at this point. They may not be god tier fight scenes but they were pretty good imo
- The original soundtrack... I need it on Spotify ASAP!! The tracks with vocals in them fit the scenes they were used in so well, it made me feel the right amount of emotions at the right time. Great choice to go with the music director they did!
- I think the only gripe I'd have with DN is that there is so much potential world building but they only had time for 13 episodes! I've looked it up and I'm aware the source material is a stage play, and there is a manga, and this anime, that was created based off the original stage play universe. The anime glossed over some things, but personally, I don't think it was too hard to ignore the things glossed over? You just kinda roll with it and enjoy the show for its pretty art and somewhat compelling story. Who knows, maybe the director of the anime didn't think it was worth wasting time to include too many world building bits because there's already an off camera universe readily available for people to experience if they Really wanted to (with the stage plays).

Like another reviewer mentioned, I don't get what's with all the bad reviews of DN. There is no singular show that will suit everyone out there. Reading through other reviews, you can IMMEDIATELY tell who didn't watch the show before leaving a lengthy review that said nothing... (the reviewer who called Angelico a DAUGHTER, tell me you didn't watch the show without telling me you didn't watch the show smh)

I’m not sure if it’s the story itself or just this anime adaptation, but this one is a flop.

There are two different plot lines/components to Delico’s Nursery: the aristocratic/government/conspiracy plot and the child rearing plot. And they do not do a good job of balancing or connecting the two. They very much feel like two separate plot lines and as someone who loves childcare anime and started this specifically because of that, the children really do not add anything to the plot other than to be, quite frankly, annoying.

The plot itself has its own issues, the main one being the 11 episode build ... up to probably one of the most anticlimactic plot resolutions I’ve ever seen. The ending is also super unsatisfactory and you’re left with a lot of unanswered questions.

I will say that the characters designs are great. The soundtrack is as well, but a lot of the time it’s so loud you can’t even hear the dialogue.

Overall, there are much better bureaucratic, vampire, and childcare anime out there, and while I commend this anime for trying to combine all three, it probably would have been better if they didn’t.

The art, the worldbuilding and the realistic character personalities are the best qualities of this anime.

the child-rearing aspect felt like the story that wanted to be told and i kind of wish it just stuck to it because the antagonist group story just feels like it was thrown in haphazardly. I find the antagonists to be underdeveloped in comparison to the main characters and even the children, their "evil plot" is so superficial and feels like barely any thought was put into their plan. Main villain had one plan and one theoretical backup plan which he reveals a few episodes before even being close to ... taking action. Both attempts failed and that was that... like dude I sat through 9 episode of this group of vampire detectives struggling to stop them all to find out they were never a threat, c'mon.

also the fact that episodes 12 and 13 are pretty much the same episode with slightly different editing was a pretty irritating. why end on a recap?

Delico’s Nursery, which I actually anticipated for this show. The poster, PVs, and other CMs look so promising, and the premise also gives a feeling that this might be entertaining, like Buddy Daddies, a child comedy plus mystery thriller, which would be really enticing and intrigue my interest in the first place, and this was produced by J.C. staff, which is another fact or reason. That doesn't mean that I am not expecting it to be like a highly rated but decent entertainment. Yet, it doesn’t feel like it lived up to my expectations.

A world or age where vampires exist and are involved in various ... malicious activities, and alongside that world has detectives or hunters who prevent them. Some events and plot happened; the main protagonist determined to raise his children on his own, and one led to another; the detective headquarters turned into a nursery. It’s sounds, no, stupid, but it's supposed to be entertaining if things are a little different than they are.

But in my opinion, more than the story, the show is suffering most for the visual or animation. The animations are not quite gone with the show’s theme. The background is way too messy, and the character design is unique, but again, animation wasn’t able to make it shine. And another issue that caught my eye was that in the last episode the sound quality was bad, like it was buzzy. I am not sure, so I watched it a couple of times differently but the same.

In the end, I like to say, it is not worth recommending.

This anime is too underrated, the best anime of the year so far!

Hot daddies and adorable children plus action? What more could you possibly ask for? These kids are too cute for this series to not be more popular, I love it! I wish there were more series like this, extremely unique with good world building. It is extremely unique and has b=many terms and concepts unique to its verse, I would love to see more stories in this verse. I did not find the story predictable in the way that it takes from the enjoyment of the series. All the characters are decently written ... for a 13 episode anime, and they all have personality and depth to them. The art style is charming and extremely fitting for the premise of the story, truly setting a vampire aristocrat setting. Dali is an endearing protagonist, that has proper motivations behind his action and comprehensible goodwill. The heroes in this story are not over righteous.

My only real complaint about Delico's Nursery is that it's a prequel to a franchise that is incredibly difficult to access outside of Japan which means certain elements that we're clearly supposed to have a response to don't really come off the correct way if you aren't already a fan of the TRUMP series.

However, overall, I think the show's fantastic. The character designs are gorgeous, the soundtrack is breathtaking, and the worldbuilding and storytelling is, in my opinion, beautifully approached. I do think the show could have done with more than 13 episodes to get everything across, though. It's hard to tell a story with ... intertwining concepts that this series has with only 13 25 minute episodes. It certainly isn't perfect and falls short in the same way a lot of anime do but, once again, I feel a lot of that comes down to the amount of time the creators had to fit everything in.

The characters are all really well developed, both the father group and the children have distinct personalities and each father represents, in a way, very real flaws and struggles that comes with real world parenting. I don't really think there's a single main character I'd describe as unlikeable and the supporting characters are also brilliant and distinctive in their own ways. The character development, though a little abrupt, is tenderly managed. The substory with the villains and the Dhampirs is really fascinating in it's own right as Dhampirs are a concept that are rarely approached properly. Though I will admit the motives of the villains do feel somewhat confusing at first as there is a singular character among them who has his own individual motives which seemingly disrail the initial plan but it does develop decently well.

In the end it's a pretty anime with a gorgeous gothic aesthetic, a beautiful soundtrack, compelling characters, and an entertaining storyline. Maybe not a masterpiece, a concept which is pretty subjective its own right, but definitely an interesting watch.

I watched it in one sitting and I must say that I loved it. Of course I expected nothing less from a studio like J. C. Staff (yes, I choose what to watch based on the animation studio).
I loved its artistic style, especially with that excellent period setting.
A super original script, with that mix of pride and vulnerability at the same time in the main characters.
On top of that, the characters are super well developed with their ups and downs according to each one's personality and it's great to see how the evolution of each one gradually develops as events happen that affect them.
I hope ... there is a second season. It deserves it.

Lo vi de un tirón y debo decir que me encantó. Claro que no esperaba menos viniendo de un estudio como J. C. Staff (sí, yo elijo qué ver según el estudio de animación).
Su estilo artístico me encantó, más con esa excelente ambientación de época.
Un guion súper original, con esa mezcla de orgullo y vulnerabilidad a la vez de los personajes principales.
Sobre eso, súper bien desarrollados los personajes con sus altos y bajos según la personalidad de cada uno y está genial ver cómo se va desarrollando paulatinamente la evolución de cada uno a medida que pasan sucesos que los afectan.

I was expecting something else.

The anime presents two very different scenarios: the nursery and the action one. Even though it could have been a good combination, the anime doesn't go into any depth and in the end the mix is ​​a bit chaotic. Personally, I would have preferred to see a lot more of the nursery and the relationship of these parents with their children. That's the reason I started watching the anime in the first place. But, if it had focused more on the action, I would have preferred it to do it well.
The antagonists and Trump didn't interest me in the ... slightest. Like the rest of the plot, they were developed superficially and didn't generate any interest in me. If they hadn't been in the anime, it would have been much better.

I really liked the animation and the drawing style, as well as the little we got to see of the world in which the story is set. That's the only thing I can highlight about the anime.

The characters are quite cliché and don't have any kind of development, except maybe for the children. The problem is that their development is not gradual and is not directly associated with their parents, which would have made more sense and would have strengthened their relationship with them.

I wouldn't say it's exactly bad, but it's far from good. I don't recommend it.

Me esperaba otra cosa.

El anime plantea dos escenarios muy diferentes: el de la guardería y el de la acción. A pesar de que pudo haber sido una buena combinación, el anime no profundiza en ninguno y al final la mezcla es un poco caótica. En lo personal, hubiese preferido ver mucho más de la guardería y de la relación de estos padres con sus hijos. Esa es la razón por la que comencé a ver el anime en primer lugar. Pero, en el caso que se hubiese centrado más en la acción, hubiese preferido que lo haga bien.
Los antagonistas y Trump no me interesaron en lo más mínimo. Al igual que el resto de la trama, fueron desarrollados de forma superficial y no me generaron ningún interés. Si no hubiesen estado en el anime, este hubiese sido muchísimo mejor.

La animación y el estilo de dibujo me gustaron muchísimo, al igual que lo poco que llegamos a ver del mundo en el que se situa la historia. Es lo único que puedo destacar del anime.

Los personajes son bastante clichés y no tienen ningún tipo de desarrollo, excepto quizá por los niños. El problema es que el desarrollo de estos no es gradual y no está asociado directamente a sus padres, que hubiese tenido más sentido y hubiese estrechado más su relación con ellos.

No diría que es exactamente malo, pero está muy lejos de ser bueno. No lo recomiendo.

This is bad. Like, really bad. Did I watch the whole thing? Yes. Do I know why? No.

I heard that this is the anime adaptation of some original content, and I don’t know if the original is a manga or a stage play by the same name, but either way it fails spectacularly. The writing, scenarios, and overall character motivations are so clunky and awkward. I cannot comment on one specific aspect because the whole script would need to be rewritten.

The one thing it had going, and probably the reason why I ended up finishing instead of DNFing, is the art style was amazing. Although, ... the backgrounds could've used some work, as it’s pretty obvious they just slapped some filters onto a CG background and called it a day.

All in all don’t waste your time. I wanted a wholesome but badass dads kicking butt but also taking care of their children type anime but this was NOT it. If you’re looking for something like that, watch Spy Family or Yakuza Babysitter

The premise is very unique and interesting, the characters feel complex to go through their arcs and the story keeps you in the show over its whole span.

I found the unique art style along with the soundtrack very gripping and fitting for the character designs and premise as a whole.
It's not every day that you find vampires solving crimes and balancing it with tending to their kids.
I found the character development tense at times and very welcome in others.
The soundtrack is its own character, felt always welcome and added to the scenes it accompanies. I found myself a few times listening to it separately, ... it's just that good.
The plot evolves very naturally and nicely done, by the end you can't help but feel like you're a part of the gang.

Watched the show in one sitting and felt that I needed to see more of this universe by the end of it.
While there is a separate play and a manga series connected to the show, I'd love to see more of Dali Delico and the gang in future installments.

This is an anime that looked promising at the outset but fizzled.


§ Overview

A series of murders are taking place among vampires. They don't seem significant at first glance, but a card is left bearing the words "True of Vamp" or TRUMP.

The Vlad Agency asks the aristocrat Dali Delico to lead a task force to investigate these murders but he refused at first, choosing to prioritise the raising of his children. Nevertheless, he relutantly agreed and vowed to balance his mission and the taking care of his children. He has other aristocratic friends who joins him in this mission, and they also have children who join ... Delico's nursery.


§ Remarks

It looked promising initially because it involves vampires. The character designs seem elaborate and background art seemed at first to be good. The visuals in the OP and ED are great.

It also involves aristocrats who are expected to display noblesse oblige. Since they have to take care of their children, it also seems to be mild propaganda for having a good family life, which is much needed in Japan, which is suffering from low birth rates. There seems to be an underlying message of balancing work while having a good family life.

And last but not the least, there is this mysterious figure called "True of Vamp" or TRUMP for short. We know in the real world that Donald Trump is a polarising figure, and I had an initial impression that TRUMP in the anime is an evil figure. But I was wrong. It turns out that TRUMP in the anime is the god of the vampires and it's the Vlad Agency's job to protect TRUMP.

So far so good.

But then again, unless you really like children, they are insufferable. You really can't blame them because they are expected to be immature, but having their ramblings for a significant amount of time is an unpleasant experience. We see their adult versions in a flashforward and they seem to be compelling characters, but we don't expect season 2 or 3 to take place.

There's some action, but it's not as exciting as the usual action anime. It's just dull.

Although strictly speaking not part of the anime itself, the production issues didn't help. The first episode aired in the middle of Summer 2024 season, then we have several weeks of no airing until the final episodes aired at the start of Fall 2024 season.


§ Conclusion

This seemed to be a promising anime, but it fizzled in the end. It's unfortunate because it had many elements to be great, but it seemed a lid had been put there that prevented it from reaching its potential.

Delico's Nursery - A case of children's child-rearing and adults's usual conflicts at the same time in a non-traditional environment, but does this amount to anything significant at the end of the day?

The criss-cross teeter-tattering of genres in this day and age for just about any given combination of genres can be good if the topic(s) are being understood and executed with meaning and purpose. Yet, for all that's worth, to have something that first existed outside of the AniManga industry and then made into those mediums with their own personal stories — this is exactly the setting premise of the dark, gothic fantasy series ... known as TRUMP. Coming into existence in the form of Shakespeare-ish stage plays going back all the way to 2009 under the direction of playwright Kenichi Suemitsu, who has directed many stage play series the likes of this show, K (yes, that GoHands series) and Touken Ranbu, it has garnered quite the audience it has back home in Japan, and seemingly enough, a reason for Aniplex to order an anime adaptation that while is standalone, still serves part of the entire TRUMP series in general.

When you look at shows that feature the childcare theme, that's the first hook that immediately gets its audience thinking what the show is all about. And yet this is exactly why Delico's Nursery, a standalone anime that's part of a series that features vampires in a fantasy, mystery setting, does right from the get-go, a pseudo-Buddy Daddies, if you will, in its given context. The standalone story of Delico's Nursery, where the tally of its serial murders threatens to derail its vampire society, leaving only a trace of a hint/clue that leads its followers to the culprit responsible: TRUMP - the True of Vamp, the origin of all vampires. And the taskforce behind this investigation is the vampire version of the US's Secret Service: the Vlad Agency, led by renowned and reputable noble aristocrats.

However, this is a careful balancing act for the people of the taskforce being assigned to the intricate case: its leader of Dali Delico and his fellow colleagues of Gerhard Fra, Henrique Lorca and Dino Classico, are fathers to their own children, so the child-rearing aspect pretty much is a necessity amidst the tension of the investigation that the trail only grows more hotter and colder, adding to the fact that a once well-known criminal organization is adding pressure to the 4 gorgeous, handsome, but stuck-up vampire parents who have to play double duty with loved ones and enemies that would pander to the Shoujo audience all the more, while the Shonen audience gets to bite the mystery elements. Like I've said, think of Delico's Nursery as the vampire version of Buddy Daddies, and you'll be fine...at least for its first Act. The adults are somewhat out of their element since their wives are the ones doing all the child-rearing work, so to have the husbands of Dali, Gerhard, Henrique, and Dino find ways to entertain their rowdy children is in more ways than one, endearing with a soul for the pension of control, which gives some personality to get to know them for first impressions.

Alas, while this show does know what it wants to be...trying to subvert its main topic with something that just naturally lines up, only for that to be very flawed does serve its bit of criticism. I find that the first Act of the child-rearing aspect (that covers the 1st half of the anime) was actually decent and not too bad to establish the "happy-go-lucky" scenarios of the 4 men having to tackle their children's wellbeing in Dali's house where said nursery resides in with Dali's kids of Raphael and toddler Ul, Gerhard's daughter Angelico, Henrique's twin sisters of Lucia and Elena, as well as Dino's only child of Theodore, which indefinitely put a lot (and I mean A LOT) of strain on the adults having to take care of the illusive ongoing serial murder case all at the same time. However, the second Act of dealing with the criminal organization was, in many ways, more overbearing than the child-rearing portion itself. To be fair, we don't exactly know a ton about the group and their notions, but it soon becomes clear that they're just your stereotypical outcasts who've been maligned in the High Society of vampires in some shape or form that they cannot conform to. As an example, one such repetitive aspect always being brought up is the Cocoon Stage, in which an unfledged vampire in the form of dhampirs evolves to become true vampires in order to thrive in the stereotypical dog-eat-dog world. Yet, for as much as the "theology" of the rejects does have their shit together with characters like Kiki and Catarina knowing that they're being outcasts but also modest at the same time, man, does the book of character development literally be thrown out of the window to try and make us feel tangent on their actions and purposes. The murder mystery plot is natural; everything else surrounding it is just plain laziness in its writing.

Delico's Nursery being J.C.Staff's 2nd out of 9 shows for Summer/Fall 2024, you've got to give it to the studio being the sweatshop studio of the current AniManga industry pumping out shows with productions at both low and high-end extremes of the spectrum, but yet surprisingly deliver each and every show in their own uniqueness. I'd say that the production of the show pretty much reminds me of Winter/Spring 2022's Baraou no Souretsu a.k.a Requiem of the Rose King, taking on the minimalist approach while letting everything else flesh all the same (production issues, is anyone surprised at this point)? Yet, for all its mediocre production and animation to boot, the show is tolerable and watchable if you give it the second chance it deserves, alongside the efforts of director Hiroshi Nishikiori's rather small staff team that includes the playwright scriptwriter Kenichi Suemitsu himself and a few others. It's pretty much almost a near-majority stake of both director and scriptwriter helming the show, and you can feel cohesiveness at the very least, even if the final product did or did not turn out what they want from the series (depending on how you look at it).

The shining moment for the show has got to be its OST. Both Mika Nakashima and Anonymouz nailed the show with their OP and ED songs that give off the vampire mystery vibes, and for a first bout, Shunsuke Wada's first-ever anime music composition may not be a knockout, but it's still respectable.

Ultimately, Delico's Nursery is a tale of two divides: either you appreciate the child-rearing and hate the serial murder case, or vice versa. I'm betting on the thought that you'd think that this show would be a take on Buddy Daddies by involving vampires, but that expectation is quite severely misplaced given what it chooses to place foremost, and then add the mystery motive that, for all intents and purposes, Buddy Daddies nails the overall premise more than this show could do either.

Sure, there's the parenting theme that helps skew Delico's Nursery to a relatale degree, but this could've been so much better if there's a level of focus on elevating what to expect from a stage play adaptation into the anime, which is its biggest Achilles' Heel.

This show should've just given up at its moment of hiatus, period.

The first 2 eps r kinda hard to get through. The constant sound of kids crying is one thing, i can get over it, but it combined with the anime treating these guys like incredible geniuses when they've said nothing of note + them being straight up horrible parents that i want to punt AND snobby aristrocrats to boot..... im struggling to care about any of these bitches, besides their children cuz they're cute, if a bit annoying but thats what kids are like no?

And it'd be fine ... if they were terrible abusive dads, if the anime didnt obviously want us to root for them, treatin their outbursts as silly and quirky rather than, yknow, things that will (and have) scarred their children for life. Like, i dunno, am i meant to laugh when a guy shouts at his toddler, makin him cry for Daring to need to go to the toilet? And when he's (forced) to go with him, he returns with him bnawling his eyes out again, so he probably shouted at him then some more.

I'm puttin it as mixed feelings cuz MAYBE? it'll get better and they'll start being better, more genuinely caring parents soon, and maybe the writing will stop sounding like it thinks we're as stupid as the kids themselves. But i'm not optimistic. They keep sayin exposition bits to eachother as if they're not all vampires that would or should know all this info.

The plot is a classic "there's murders happenin and we're tryna figure out whodunnit" except that we see whodunnit in ep 1, so its mostly about how the lads will figure out who it is. I like the character designs, they're pretty boys and i fw that. The animation is. Fine.

Idk man i struggle to say nice things about this anime so far, i'm puttin it on hold but i might not continue it.
