Longer is not always better, more intensity is not always better, more twists is not always better, more drama is not always better, trying to hard is not good, but it seems to have become the norm for the Japanese animation industry. It sells and lots of people like it. It is sad to see more and more anime coming out like cheap, over dramatic, long sequenced, shallow while trying to be deep East Asian soap operas. If you have Asian parents or live in Asia you know what I mean. It is getting harder and harder for good anime to slip through the cracks. I wish people would appreciate the subtlety behind anime that doesn't try hard to be good, but just is. You need an example? Try Cowboy Bebop, try Guardian of the Sacred Spirit, try Ghost in the Shell. No ten minute panning scenery shots, no sudden super dramatic seriousness from characters that very clearly have no business changing the tone of what was a good anime-- Tengen Toppa... If only there were more people like Miyazaki and Satoshi Kon. Where the hell are these comments being posted anyway and why I am I talking to myself so much. Ugh, the problem with everything is people. Too many shitty people with shitty tastes. Cheers to everyone who gave Bebop a 10 and some of those 'top anime' a reasonable grade.
