Qualities and things I value in anime:
This is a list of the aspects of shows that I rate based on how well they are executed. The things I look out for and how much I value them differ depending on the genre (for example I'll value world-building a lot more in fantasy than in a slice of life show).


►The general quality of the plot (nature of the plot, does the plot make sense in the world its set in..........)
►World-building & how characters react to the world in various situations. Hopefully detailed/coherent.
►Cliches and tropes (Less = better unless an anime is parodying said cliches and tropes).
►Raw & honest emotions (intellectual & emotional honesty of characters/themes)
►How successful an anime is, at conveying its message and ideas.
►Use of quality and quantity of humor and sexual themes.
►How well the anime is adapted from the source material.
►Psychological introspection -relatable internal conflicts
►The tone of the anime and how characters fit in with it.
►Subtle & organic storytelling -- gripping plots
►Endearing characters -- character chemistry
►Balanced tone (not too bleak or saturated)
►Moral ambiguity - grey morality [Hisoka]
►The richness of ideas & diversity
►Amount and use of fan-service
►How exposition is handled
►Amazing action sequences

►Thought-provoking ideas
►Nuanced and multilayered characters
►Subtlety and nuance in storytelling and characterization
►Critiquing things that deserve to be critiqued (tropes, personality traits, etc)
