Along with having brilliant execution it resonates with me deeply on an emotional and euphoric level. Something "clicks" in my brain during or after watching/reading that lets me know that it was a 10. Nothing is perfect, therefore a 10 doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be close to it (for you). It is something truly special and absolutely breathtaking. The Studio or mangaka spent time on the smallest details like bringing the idiosyncrasies a character has, to life. The flare and the finesse the artist brings to the piece and aesthetics that the artist chooses to incorporate in his work are second to none. It’s rare, & it was unique or innovative enough, that you want to live through it all over again for the first time. 10/10.
EXCEPTIONAL:
Absolutely amazing; something that I adored. Great ideas, brilliant execution. A couple of elements stopped it from "clicking" for it to become a 10 but anything with this score is likely a favorite of mine. This has resonated with me from the color visuals, the concept, and the narrative. Most likely, I probably have some story to share about it. 9/10.
SOLID:
Benchmark for Quality, I have very few grievances with it. Probably didn't connect with me 100% or had some debilitating characteristics but still rather impressive. Most are very memorable and I wouldn't mind rewatching most of them or recommending. 8/10.
LIKEABLE/FUN:
I enjoyed this manga/anime/manwha/ or light novel. Pretty solid, had a notable amount of flaws or things that I didn't like, but in which the parts I did enjoy, it vastly outweighed the bad. I'm definitely glad that I saw or read these but I most likely wouldn't recommend them. 7/10.
INTERESTING:
Lacking, messy at times, or disengaging in some way but I still somewhat enjoyed it. This is the score where I usually give it a... 6/10.
NOT INTERESTING:
There are too many stories out there. Not going to waste my time on anything that's below a 6/10 for me. Held back by a lot of problems. In the majority of cases, I wish I hadn't seen or read. If I continued, it was only out of morbid fascination. In most cases, I DROP this series. Anything 5/10 & Below.
SIMPLIFIED SCORING SYSTEM
What I use to rate but simplified.
Just add an out /10 score to each, then multiply then divide.
The 2 Deciding factors when scoring Anime & Manga:
►Personal Enjoyment and Immersion.
►Exhibition and the balance between story Structure and character development.
Qualities and things I value in anime:
This is a list of the aspects of shows that I rate based on how well they are executed. The things I look out for and how much I value them differ depending on the genre (for example I'll value world-building a lot more in fantasy than in a slice of life show).
►The general quality of the plot (nature of the plot, does the plot make sense in the world its set in..........)
►World-building & how characters react to the world in various situations. Hopefully detailed/coherent.
►Cliches and tropes (Less = better unless an anime is parodying said cliches and tropes).
►Raw & honest emotions (intellectual & emotional honesty of characters/themes)
►How successful an anime is, at conveying its message and ideas.
►Use of quality and quantity of humor and sexual themes.
►How well the anime is adapted from the source material.
►Psychological introspection -relatable internal conflicts
►The tone of the anime and how characters fit in with it.
►Subtle & organic storytelling -- gripping plots
►Endearing characters -- character chemistry
►Balanced tone (not too bleak or saturated)
►Moral ambiguity - grey morality [Hisoka]
►The richness of ideas & diversity
►Amount and use of fan-service
►How exposition is handled
►Amazing action sequences
►Unique/quirky comedy
►Well explored themes
►Attention to details
►Animation Quality
►Sound Quality
►Symbolism
►Pacing
Things to look out for:
►Thought-provoking ideas
►Nuanced and multilayered characters
►Subtlety and nuance in storytelling and characterization
►Critiquing things that deserve to be critiqued (tropes, personality traits, etc)
Hello Mr.Shisui and thanks for the question 🥳. You asked what I liked and what I did not like but the thing is, Professor Shisui that i didn’t really dislike anything or overly anything to much besides the last two episodes, which I’m sure I’ll appreciate more once I watch the movies, the mystery behind the Evas, and the slice of life like interactions between Shinji and Asuka. The story was riddled with dark themes but none of them really clicked for me PERSONALLY. Question what pile this be considered a character drama, Dr.Shisui?
Pffftt Good Ending XD
If you have looked through my list you would see that I gave it a 2/10 lol.
Let's just say that I despise both GE and Kei Sasuga in general, so you are not alone in thinking that the series isn't as impressive as some might think.

A few example of series with romance at the forefront are:

There's still plenty more but I need to dig through my list to get them but these should suffice, they don't necessarily reflect my "taste" so to say but they are series that I have a positive view on.
