Historic Olympic and Paralympic Flags Installed at Los Angeles City Hall, To Be Displayed Through the 2028 Olympic & Paralympic Games

Mayor Karen Bass, LA28 Executives, Local Leaders, and Olympic and Paralympic Athletes Participate in Installation Ceremony, Cementing the LA28 Games are at Our Doorstep

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 13, 2024) – On Thursday, September 12, the official Olympic and Paralympic flags were unveiled and installed at City Hall in a ceremony and reception with the City of L.A. and LA28.

The celebration marked the return of the Olympic Flag to Los Angeles after more than 40 years and the arrival of the Paralympic flag for the first time in City history.

“The Games have an opportunity to bring people together and celebrate the best of Los Angeles, California and the United States,” said Casey Wasserman, President of LA28. “As the flags rest at City Hall for the next four years, we will reflect on our shared commitment with the city to delivering a Games that will make both Angelenos and athletes proud.”

The program included remarks from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, LA28 Chairperson and President Casey Wasserman, Council President Paul Krekorian, Team USA Olympian Cheryl Miller, and Paralympian Arelle Middleton. Also in attendance were Janet Evans, LA28 Chief Athlete Officer, plus 34 Olympian and Paralympian athletes, local Elected officials, LA84 and other community members.

ABOUT THE LA28 OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC GAMES:

The LA28 Games will mark Los Angeles’ third time to host the Olympic Games, previously hosted in 1984 and 1932, and first time to host the Paralympic Games. Los Angeles will host the world’s most elite athletes in 2028 as it welcomes Paralympians and Olympians from around the world to compete on the biggest stage in sports. The LA28 Games are independently operated by a privately funded, non-profit organization with revenue from corporate partners, licensing agreements, hospitality and ticketing programs and a significant contribution from the International Olympic Committee.
