Adam Copeland has addressed his wife’s wrestling return.
Last seen wrestling together at Elimination Chamber 2023, Cope and Beth Phoenix defeated The Judgment Day in a mixed tag-team match. However, since then, Phoenix has yet to don her boots again.
Last time, Phoenix came to Cope’s aid when Rhea Ripley of The Judgment Day became too much trouble for him. Similarly, right now, Marina Shafir of The Death Riders has posed a similar problem in AEW. Discussing Shafir and her team’s torment of him, Cope recently opened up the chances of his wife, Beth Phoenix’s return during an interview with TV Insider.
“You never know. I don’t think she has completely closed the door on it if the situation fits. I think where we were at, I think getting Willow [Nightingale] involved was good. Someone who was already on our roster, and I feel is just such a natural babyface and has such good energy. I thought she would be really cool to implement her into the story. Why not use someone who was already on the roster? Beth is also pretty busy. She has a pretty busy life, so it becomes more a family issue and how do we pull it off if we’re both outgoing. “
However, while the Hall of Famer’s return remains debatable, former TBS Champion Willow Nightingale appeared as a saving grace for Adam Copeland during his fight with Shafir and The Death Riders.
Adam Copeland Discusses The Importance Of Storytelling In Pro Wrestling
Speaking with Jon Alba of The Takedown on SI, Adam Copeland opened up about the importance of storytelling in pro wrestling.
“Everybody can have a good match if you’re at this stage, you know? And people can do wrestling holds. It’s when to do them. Do you know the right place? The right time? All of those things. And that becomes easier when you have a storyline built into it,” he said. “And so you look at like, Ricochet and Swerve. And yeah, they can have a spectacular match. But man, it’s going to mean so much more now because of Nana and Jimmy Rave’s robe. So you add that element of story to it. That, I’ve always said, makes the match that much more”
“Hogan and Rock didn’t do a whole lot of wrestling moves in their match because they didn’t have to. They had the people with these [poses], and they had them with just the enormity of it. But it was story. It wasn’t about moves. And at the base of it all, it’s still got to be about story. The moves are garnish.”
“You can tell stories with moves, especially if it’s a cold match and it’s a one-off. You can,” he said in admittance. “But give me those three, four-month stories with a culmination, or a six-month story, or a year-long story.”
