'Watson' Renewed For Season 2 At CBS

Two months after launch, Watson is getting more cases.

CBS has renewed the Morris Chestnut-fronted drama series for a second season.

This comes after the Paramount-owned network said that the premiere episode, which aired January 26, was its most-watched scripted episode of the 2024-25 season, and the show is averaging 6.79M viewers each week, per Nielsen.

Watson, inspired by the characters from Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes mysteries, takes place six months after the death of the titular character’s friend and partner Holmes at the hands of archenemy Moriarty. It follows the detective as he turns his attention from solving crimes to solving medical mysteries.

Chestnut stars as Dr. John Watson, who resumes his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders. Watson’s old life isn’t done with him, though – Moriarty and Watson are set to write their own chapter of a story that has fascinated audiences for more than a century.

Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Inga Schlingmann, Ritchie Coster and Rochelle Aytes also star.

Randall Park stars as Professor James Moriarty in a guest role alongside Matt Berry as the voice of Sherlock Holmes.

The first season will have a two-part finale on May 4 and May 11, taking it through a 13-episode run.

The series is produced by CBS Studios. Craig Sweeny wrote the premiere episode and serves as showrunner and executive producer. The series is also exec produced by Chestnut, Sallie Patrick, Larry Teng, Shäron Moalem MD, PhD, Kapital Entertainment’s Aaron Kaplan and Brian Morewitz.

The move comes a month after CBS made a number of decisions for its 2025-26 season. In February, it renewed Tracker, Fire Country, Elsbeth and three NCIS dramas as well as comedy Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and a two-season order for Ghosts. Kathy Bates drama Matlock already received a second-season renewal last year and FBI has two more seasons on its three-season order.

The network did, however, cancel a number of shows including S.W.A.T. (again) as well as FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International. No word on the future of The Equalizer.

It also is adding new series such as Sheriff Country and Blue Bloods spinoff Boston Blue starring Donnie Wahlberg for the next broadcast season.
