Michael Evans (Texas)
Michael Evans Sr. was the District 5 representative on the Tarrant County College District Board of Trustees in Texas. Evans was declared elected to the seat in 2017 when no other candidates filed to run against him.[1] He left office in 2021.
At the time of his run for the Tarrant County College District Board of Trustees, Evans was the Place 3 representative on the Mansfield Independent School District Board of Trustees in Texas. He won re-election to that position unopposed in 2016. He resigned from the Mansfield Independent School district Board of Trustees in April 2017. Former board member Sandra Vatthauer was temporarily appointed to the Place 3 seat.[2]
Biography
Michael Evans earned a B.A. in political science from the University of Texas at Arlington, an M.Div. from Texas Christian University, and a D.Min. from Baylor University. He also completed doctoral work at Southern Methodist University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.[3]
Evans served in the United States Navy as a commissioned officer and as a reserve chaplain.[4]
As of 2020, Evans was the pastor of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Mansfield, Texas. He had also served as the president of the African American Ministries for the Baptist General Convention of Texas and as director of Life Touch Cottage Ministries. He was a member of the board of trustees and an administrator for the Tarrant County College District. Evans' experience also includes working as an adjunct professor for Dallas Baptist University, serving as a member of the Tarrant County Commissioner's Court Citizens Blue Ribbon Council on Healthcare Services, and founding of the Bethlehem Baptist Church Educational Enrichment Corporation, the Hope House Community Service Network, and the Historic West Mansfield Texas Community Development Corporation.[3]

The 2017 election for the District 5 seat on the Tarrant County College District Board of Trustees was canceled and Evans was declared elected when no other candidates filed to run against him.[1]

2016Three of the seven seats on the Mansfield Independent School District board of trustees were up for by-district general election on May 7, 2016. Place 3 incumbent Michael Evans, Place 4 incumbent Raul Gonzalez, and Place 5 incumbent Karen Marcucci were the only candidates to file in the race. Due to the lack of opposition, the election was canceled and the candidates were automatically re-elected. There was no primary.[5] |
