Two seats on the Mesa County Valley School District 51 Board of Education were up for general election on November 3, 2015.

The seats of District A incumbent Arvan Jeffry Leany and District B incumbent Ann Tisue were up for election.[1][2] Challenger Doug Levinson defeated Leany and Kelly Reed for the District A seat. Tisue did not file to run for re-election in District B, guaranteeing a newcomer would join the board. Paul Pitton defeated Cindy Enos-Martinez and George Rau in the race to replace Tisue.[3]

Mesa County Valley School District 51 is located in Mesa County in western Colorado. The county seat of Mesa County is Grand Junction. Mesa County was home to an estimated 147,554 residents in 2013, according to the United States Census Bureau.[4] Mesa County Valley School District 51 was the 12th-largest school district in Colorado, serving 21,925 students during the 2011-2012 school year.[5]

Mesa County underperformed in comparison to the rest of Colorado in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. Voter and candidate information

The Mesa County Valley Board of Education consists of five members, all of whom are elected by district to four-year terms. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on November 3, 2015. Two seats were on the ballot in November 2015.[1]

Individuals interested in running for the board began circulating nominating petitions on August 5, 2015. The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the 2015 general election was August 28, 2015, and the filing deadline to serve as a write-in candidate was August 31, 2015.[2]
