The Maine Highway Fund Use Referendum was on the September 11, 1944 ballot in Maine as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment, where it was approved. The measure limited the use of revenues derived from the taxation of vehicles and fuels used on public highways to highway purposes.[1][2] This added Section 22 to Article IX of the Maine Constitution.[3]

"Shall the Constitution be amended as proposed by a resolve of the legislature, limiting to highway purposes the use of revenues derived from the taxation of vehicles used on public highways and fuels used for propulsion of such vehicles?" [4]
