Mark Williams (Georgia)
Mark Williams was the Georgia Commissioner of Natural Resources. Williams assumed office on December 9, 2010. Williams left office on July 1, 2023.
Williams was appointed to Georgia Commissioner of Natural Resources by the Georgia Board of Natural Resources and confirmed by Governor Sonny Perdue on December 9, 2010.
Previously, Williams was a Republican member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing the 178th District from 2007-2010.
Biography
Williams is a director of Prime South Bank, past president of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, and past president of the Rotary Club. He is a former high school teacher and football coach and owns Harris Real Estate in Jesup, GA. Williams also served as a First Lieutenant in the Army National Guard. He earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Georgia College.[1][2]

Georgia Commissioner of Natural Resources (2010-2023)
Williams was appointed by the Board of Natural Resources on December 8, 2010[3], and confirmed by Governor Sonny Perdue the next day.
Williams is a director of Prime South Bank, past president of the Wyne County Chamber of Commerce, and past president of the Rotary Club. Georgia House of Representatives (2007-2010)
Williams served as a Republican member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing the 178th District from 2007 until his appointment to the state executive post of natural resources commissioner in December, 2007. He was first elected in 2006 and subsequently won election in 2008 and 2010.

Williams was appointed to his current post, Georgia Commissioner of Natural Resources, in December of 2010. He was selected by the Georgia Board of Natural Resources and confirmed by Governor Sonny Perdue. He had to resign his seat in the state House upon taking office as commissioner on December 9, 2010.

Williams ran for re-election to the 178th District seat in 2010. He did not have any opposition in the July 20 primary or in the general election on November 2, 2010.[5]

In 2008 Williams was re-elected to the Georgia House of Representatives District 178. Williams (R) ran unopposed and finished with 15,312 votes.[6] Williams raised $13,550 for his campaign fund.[7]
