Campaign themes

2015

Prusnick highlighted the following candidate statement on her campaign website:

From the time my oldest child started at Einstein Elementary, to the time my youngest graduates from Jane Addams Junior High, my family will have spent 20 uninterrupted years in District 54. I have watched the educational system change significantly in the last decade. Students and teachers alike are held much more accountable for the standards in today’s curriculum. The role parents play has a greater impact in their child’s education as well.

I have seen how decisions made by the school board and administration impact the schools and community of Schaumburg Township. School District 54 recognizes the importance of input from a variety for viewpoints in decision- making. While the current School Board has no members who are presently District 54 parents, district-wide committees are often formed of teachers, parents, and administrative staff. I have sat on a number of these committees, representing the parents of District 54, on matters like goals, student fees, and recognition. This experience has helped me understand how critical it is to have a parent advocate at the highest level, making sure that the issues important to our community, and to parents and their children help guide the school board to continue the excellence in education that District 54 is known for.

My professional experience and community leadership, coupled with my family’s long stay in District schools, will bring an important perspective to the Board. in my first term on the School Board. As a long time resident of Hanover Park, I will round out the board by providing a broader point of view on our community.

As a board member, I promise to work to provide each child in this District the same benefits and opportunities I would want for my own children.

Best regards, Mary Kay[9]
