Aftermath
On May 15, 2024, Judge David Peeples ordered a redo election for Texas' 180th District Court judge in Harris County, Texas. Incumbent DaSean Jones (D) defeated Tami Pierce (R) on November 8, 2022, by 449 votes. Pierce challenged the results and Peeples found that 1,430 votes should not have been counted due to deficiencies with the voters' statement of residence forms and/or their reasonable-impediment declaration forms. The former is for notifying election workers of a move, while the latter is for voters who need to provide a valid reason for not having identification.[1][2][3]
Peeples scheduled the redo for May 3, 2025. He was unable to schedule it for November 5, 2024, because Jones was already on the November ballot for Texas Supreme Court Place 2. Jones appealed Peeples' ruling for a redo election.[1][2]
