Kimberly Guilfoyle is a media personality and legal analyst. She was a senior advisor for President Donald Trump's (R) re-election campaign and chair of the Trump Victory Finance Committee.[1] Guilfoyle was previously a co-host of the program The Five on Fox News. Guilfoyle has been a legal analyst for Court TV and ABC News. Before her media career, she was a prosecutor in the district attorneys' offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Trump announced on December 10, 2024, that he had selected Guilfoyle to serve as ambassador U.S. ambassador to Greece. The appointment requires Senate confirmation. In a social media post, Trump called Guilfoyle "a close friend and ally” who “is perfectly suited to foster strong bilateral relations with Greece, advancing our interests on issues ranging from defense cooperation to trade and economic innovation.”[2]

In May 2017, it was reported that Guilfoyle was being considered for, and expressed interest in, serving as the press secretary for Donald Trump's (R) presidential administration. She told the San Jose Mercury News, "I think it’d be a fascinating job. It’s a challenging job, and you need someone really determined and focused, a great communicator in there with deep knowledge to be able to handle that position."[3]


Career

Legal career

After graduating from the University of California, Davis and then from law school at the University of San Francisco, Guilfoyle began working in the office of the district attorney in San Francisco. Originally working under Arlo Smith, Guilfoyle supported his re-election campaign in 1996. When Smith lost to Terence Hallinan, Hallinan fired a number of prosecutors who had opposed him in the election, including Guilfoyle.[4] According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Guilfoyle then moved to work at the district attorney's office in Los Angeles for four years before being rehired by Hallinan.[5] She served as the assistant attorney general in San Francisco until 2004, when she left to work on the mayoral campaign of Gavin Newsom (D), her husband at the time.[6]

Court TV

Guilfoyle began working as a legal analyst on television in 2004 with Court TV, co-hosting the show Both Sides. Speaking of her decision to move into a role as a media personality, Guilfoyle said at the time, "I've always had an interest in broadcast journalism and the law. So it's nice that I can combine the two."[6] During her time with Court TV, Guilfoylae also served as a legal analyst for ABC News and "Anderson Cooper 360" on CNN.[7]

Fox News

In 2006, Guilfoyle joined Fox News as a legal analyst and as the host of the crime program The Lineup, which focused on legal affairs in the news. In 2011, she became co-host of The Five, one of the channel's news shows with a roundtable discussion format. Guilfoyle has also regularly appeared on other Fox shows, including as a host of Outnumbered and as a legal analyst on the network's prime-time programming.[8]

From December 2001 to February 2006, Guilfoyle was married to California politician Gavin Newsom. The two were married for his first two years as mayor of San Francisco. According to Guilfoyle, the two divorced in 2006 after Guilfoyle moved to New York City to work as a television legal analyst.[10]
