Iowa Judicial Department Administration, Amendment 1 (June 1962)

The Iowa Judicial Department Administration Amendment, also known as Amendment 1, was on the ballot in Iowa on June 4, 1962, as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was approved. The measure provided guidelines for the filling of vacancies in the supreme court and district courts and provided for a State Judicial Nominating Commission to fill such vacancies. The measure also provided for eight and six year term limits for supreme court justices and district court judges, respectively; and provided for salaries, qualifications and mandatory retirement of judges and justices.[1][2]
