The government of Indiana consists of three branches--the judicial, the legislative and the executive branches. The state government was first formed in December 1816 when it replaced the government of the Indiana Territory. In 1851, a new constitution was adopted by the state.

Indiana has two members of the U.S. Senate, a total of nine members of the U.S. House of Representatives, 100 members of the House of Representatives and 50 members of the State Senate.
