Miki R. Inbody is the superintendent of Flowing Wells Unified School District. Inbody was appointed on February 1, 2023 and started serving on March 13, 2023. Inbody's previous career experience includes serving multiple administrative roles in both the Fontana USD and the Redlands Unified School District. She most recently served as the Assistant Superintendent of Education Support Services at the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools.[1]
Past superintendents
- Juan M. López was interim superintendent of the Fontana Unified School district from September 6, 2022 until his successor was sworn in on March 13, 2023.[2]
- Monica Makiewicz was acting superintendent of Fontana Unified School District from August 1, 2022 until September 6, 2022.[2]
- Randal Bassett was the superintendent of the Fontana Unified School District from his appointment as co-interim superintendent with John Porter in June 2016 until his resignation on August 1, 2022.[3] He was appointed full superintendent in January 2017. Bassett's previous career experience includes working as the district's associate superintendent of business services and chief technology officer.[4]
- John Porter was the co-interim superintendent of the Fontana Unified School District from 2016 to 2017. Porter's previous career experience included working as the superintendent of the Franklin-McKinley School District.[4][5][6]
- Leslie Boozer was the superintendent of the Fontana Unified School District from 2013 to 2016. Boozer's previous career experience included working as an administrator in Chicago Public Schools and the Rochester City School District in New York and as an instructor in the Harvard Graduate School of Education.[7][8]

The Fontana Unified School District Board of Education is composed of five members elected to four-year terms. The school district began switching from holding at-large elections to by-district elections in 2022.

Elections
The Fontana Unified School District Board of Education holds regular elections in November of even-numbered years. School board seats are up for election on a staggered basis so that two or three seats are on the ballot every election year.[9][10]
Two seats on the board were up for general election on November 5, 2024.

Academic performance

Noteworthy events
2017: Board calls for special election
The Fontana Unified Board of Education voted 3-1 on March 15, 2017, to hold a special election for a vacant seat on November 7, 2017. The vote came after the board could not agree on who to appoint to the position. Two votes to appoint a new member were split 2-2 between Kareem Gongora and Mars Serna, who both filed to run in the special election. Board members Matt Slowik and Peter Garcia supported Serna, and board members Jason O'Brien and Mary B. Sandoval supported Gongora.[17]
The vacant seat was previously held by Jesse Armendarez, who resigned after he was elected to the Fontana City Council in November 2016.[17]
Serna and Gongora were the only two candidates who filed to run in the special election. Serna won the special election with 62% of the vote.[18]
