Education Committee, South Dakota House of Representatives
The Education Committee is a standing committee of the South Dakota House of Representatives.
Per the House Rules, South Dakota House of Representatives committees are assigned by the Speaker of the House with the advice of the Minority Leader. The Speaker appoints the chair and vice chair of each committee. The Speaker and Speaker Pro Tempore serve on the Legislative Procedure Committee as chair and vice chair, respectively.[1] Quorum and the timing of assignments are not defined in the rules.

Function
The Legislator Reference Book defines the following subject areas for the Education Committee:
“ | Bills relating to the school districts; the finance, operations, and curriculum of public schools; the teaching profession; special education; higher education; the board of regents; the department of education; and vocational-technical education.[2][3] | ” |
