Zeier answered the following questions from Lake Country Now:
“ |
What strengths do you bring to the school board? As a parent of two KM graduates, I am committed to serving the district, its students and taxpayers. Having served on the board and through participation in numerous KM and Wisconsin Association of School Board seminars, forums and workshops, I have substantial knowledge and understanding of the district and education issues. What would you like to see changed to draw staff and/or students to the district? KM draws about three open-enrollment students in for every out. The completion of facility improvements will make KM more capable and attractive. Microcredentialing, a new compensation approach being implemented with teacher involvement, has been attractive to current and new teacher hires. I will continue to support the path KM is on. What do you see as the next steps for the district after referendum construction is complete? The report from the KM strategic visioning community forum held last Oct. 24 will serve as a starting point. Facilities improvements for technical education and athletics should and will receive additional attention. What is the biggest challenge facing the district? How to continually improve an innovative, high-performing district with a high school that is recognized as of one of nation's best, while district per pupil spending is the third lowest of Waukesha County districts. See the 2016-17 Budget Challenges Administrative Recommendations on KM Board Docs March 15 agenda. How do you propose to address that challenge? We have been communicating with representatives in the state Legislature for changes at the state level. KM explores all options for operational savings and funding sources that will balance the budget. I support KM transparency in budgeting and spending ,and improving communication with the public. |
