Campaign themes

2014

Hopson's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Conservative Values

  • Excerpt: "Dustin is 100% pro-life, and he is committed to defending the rights of unborn children. Dustin believes life begins at conception and that the protection of that life is a fundamental principle that we must maintain."
  • Excerpt: "Dustin has always believed that our right to defend our homes and families is a right given by God and that our right to bear arms is guaranteed by the constitution. That is why he will not only oppose efforts to limit that right, but he will also fight to relax laws that have restricted those rights. Dustin will oppose any effort by the federal government to impose further federal gun control policies on our state."

Jobs and the Economy

  • Excerpt: "[Hopson's] plan to create growth in Oklahoma is simple: seek first to diversify our economy, cut restrictive taxes on business and individuals, end useless government regulations, and limit the damages of frivolous lawsuits."

Education

  • Excerpt: "He will work to raise the education expectations in our state and will work to ensure that our teachers and classrooms have the tools and resources needed to be successful. He will work to keep the federal government from ruining our education system and will help develop higher Oklahoma standards."

Healthcare

  • Excerpt: "Dustin does not believe the fight is over yet and will work to ensure that Obamacare is not implemented in our state."

Taxes and Government Spending

  • Excerpt: "Dustin has advocated and will continue to fight to reduce the state income tax. He will fight to reduce property taxes in our state. He will also seek reforms to tort litigation, which impact assessments and tax rates directly and indirectly."
