The Taney Court lasted from March 1836 to October 1864, during the presidencies of Andrew Jackson (D), Martin Van Buren (D), William Henry Harrison (Whig), John Tyler (Whig), Zachary Taylor (Whig), Millard Fillmore (Whig), Franklin Pierce (D), James Buchanan, and Abraham Lincoln (R).

Roger Brooke Taney was nominated as the fifth Supreme Court Chief Justice by President Andrew Jackson (D) on December 28, 1835. Taney was later confirmed by the Senate and served from March 15, 1836, until his death on October 12, 1864.[1]

The Supreme Court of the United States is the highest judicial body in the country and leads the judicial branch of the federal government. It is often referred to by the acronym SCOTUS.[2]
