Ann Marie Buerkle
Ann Marie Buerkle (Republican Party) was a member of the U.S. House, representing New York's 25th Congressional District. Buerkle assumed office on January 3, 2011. Buerkle left office in 2013.
Due to New York's 2012 redistricting, Buerkle ran in the newly redrawn 24th District. She was defeated by Dan Maffei on November 6, 2012.[1]
Based on an analysis of bill sponsorship by GovTrack, Buerkle was a "centrist Republican follower."[2]
Biography
Buerkle was born in Auburn, New York. She earned her R.N. from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1972, a B.S. from Le Moyne College in 1977, and a J.D. from Syracuse University in 1994.[3]
Career
After earning her credentials, Buerkle worked as a nurse. After she later earned her J.D., she worked as an attorney.[4]

Fiscal Cliff
Buerkle did not cast a vote regarding the fiscal cliff compromise bill, which made permanent most of the Bush tax cuts originally passed in 2001 and 2003 while also raising tax rates on the highest income levels. The bill was passed in the House by a 257 - 167 vote on January 1, 2013.[7]

Buerkle lost her re-election bid in 2012 for the newly redrawn 25th District.[8] She was unopposed in the Republican, Conservative, and Independence party primaries and was defeated by Dan Maffei (D) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[9] She was considered a vulnerable incumbent in this newly constructed district.[10]

On November 2, 2010, Buerkle was elected to the United States House. She also ran on the Conservative Party and Independence Party tickets. She defeated Daniel B. Maffei (D).[11]
