Timilty's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Educating Our Children

  • Our district has benefited from some of the best school systems in the Commonwealth. As a strong supporter of our public schools, Walter knows the importance of investing in our education systems and children. He has consistently voted to increase local education funding. That is why he has received the overwhelming support from teachers across the district. Walter is the only candidate to receive the endorsement of both the Mass. Teachers Association and the American Federation of Teachers Massachusetts.

Fighting For Jobs & A Stronger Local Economy

  • Supports ending gender discrimination in insurance rates
  • Has co-sponsored wage equality legislation
  • Facilitated growth of small businesses by passing targeted economic development legislation

Fighting the Opioid Epidemic

  • Voted for passage of landmark opiate treatment & enforcement legislation
  • Expanded access to rehabilitation beds for those in recovery
  • Helped found the first drug treatment court in Norfolk County, now a statewide model

Protecting our Communities

  • Authored bill to protect Fowl Meadow from harmful development
  • Coordinated state & local officials to block the proposed Holbrook Waste Facility
  • Teamed up with Congressman Stephen Lynch to fight the FAA to alter flight paths
  • Successfully fought the privatization of Ulin Rink, ensuring it remains a public recreational asset

Serving Seniors

  • Walter has sponsored legislation to improve the quality of life for seniors. He has filed a bill that will improve the delivery of prescription drug benefits, co-sponsored legislation to establish a real estate tax credit for persons 65 and older, and has worked to exempt senior citizens from having to pay certain banking fees.[13]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Massachusetts

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states. To contribute to the list of Massachusetts scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.

2024

In 2024, the Massachusetts State Legislature was in session from January 3 to December 31. Formal session ended on July 31, 2024 and an informal session was convened from August 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024.

Legislators are scored on bills of interest to an organization that pledges "to make government more transparent, make fiscally responsible choices, and to hold the line on taxes."
Legislators are scored on their sponsorship of legislation related to animal issues.
Legislators are scored on their votes on bills related to business issues.
Legislators are scored by the organization on votes that "can show the distinction between a progressive legislator, and everyone else."
